RIP Fiona.
She died earlier tonight. I though she was getting better. She had eaten the last 3 days and was regaining some of her color. I feel terrible that she had to suffer so long and ultimately perish. I'm going to destroy this bristle worm if it kills me. |

You can always pull the livestock you want to keep, and fry the rest. Most living.things don't care for excess heat and no flow

If you have substrate, you could acid dip your rock and fry that sob

Catching a Large Bristle Worm
Sorry for the loss, I was actually following this thread for a few days to see how you made out with your fish. It sounded like it was doing better, that sucks man.

When I had my 125 I had a large one about a foot long and it was very fat. I ended up having to watch for it at night and would bait it with a piece of shrimp far enough away from the rockwork for me to grab it with forceps. Took me about a month or so before I finally got it. Ended up taking out the rock I saw it go back into and leaving the rock in a bucket without water until it came out - matter of hours.
Sorry to hear about your clown, it must be maddening to say the least. |

There's a couple of things I can suggest. Like you, I consider bristle worms to be predators and eliminate them from my tanks when I find one. I consider them particularly dangerous to small photosynthetic clams, and I don't trust Ron Shimek's assertion that they are harmless detritovores.
So - if you want to try the spear fishing technique again, your only mistake was the implement of destruction. You need a reasonably large fishhook, but one that is still small enough to bend. Bend it straight and then either glue it with epoxy to a wooden dowel or tie it with fishing line (I glued mine - I don't tolerate bristleworms of any size, so I figured I needed a semi-permanent tool). If you have some woodworking/outdoorsman skills and can sharpen things, then sharpen the fishhook and barb. If not, you may have to experiment with different brands of hooks. Wait until tank lights-out, then bait it out of its hole with a bit of P-E Mysis or raw table shrimp. Once you have the wriggling monster on the end of your spear, use needlenose pliers to take it off over the trash can. The bristles are bad news if you get them in your skin. Be prepared, putting shrimp juice in your tank may reveal more bristleworms than you thought you had... |

Sorry for your loss. Funny you names her Fiona though lol.
I have about 4 bristle worms in my tank that are about 2mm in diameter and 4 inches long. I am about to go on a battle-hunt to eliminate those sea serpents. |
