I love that you don't test. I don't either. RO/DI plus frequent water changes and all of my corals are doing great.

Mark, I don't know what to say, I find the current tank every bit as pleasing as the prior TOTM. The longer I am in this hobby, the more I dislike the phrase "old school". I prefer the phrase "proper school" because IMO proper equipment selection is every bit as important as the livestock put in the tank and the husbandry that follows. You nailed it with equipment selection, livestock selection and husbandry. The results speak for themselves.
The tanks I admire and inspire me the most are yours and a few others where the aquarist chose excellent, long term equipment, takes care of what needs to be taken care and doesn't worry too much about the rest. I am also a proponent of heavy feeding and high flow. The deep coloration of the corals indicates well fed and happy corals and fish. I am curious if you use any mechanical filtration, such as filter socks?

Really enjoyed reading thru your thread!! Your tank is well deserving of TOTM!!!
That acro colony in the center is huge and looks like it was plucked straight out of the ocean. I was curious about your switch to barebottom. Did you notice any effect on the tanks water chemistry as a result of removing the sand. Again... Gorgeous tank and congratulations! |

Thank you everyone for the kind words. The only advice I could offer is go with what works for you and your system. Every tank is different and each tank has it's own demands and challenges. For me, my biggest challenge has been walking away from the tank and hobby!
