What is the proper rinsing source? Tap, RO/DI, or SW? Can you use tap, and then do a final with RO/DI?

I use tap water for rinsing.. The GFO that I bought had dust/fines and I could never get the water to run clear when rinsing so I gave up. If you get the GFO without too many fines then it doesn't take too long to rinse.. just run the water flow slow through the gfo until clear, if the flow is too high then the media can start to break down and you can get more fines and brown water.

I never trust tap water for anything when it comes to my marine tank. Everything for me is ro/di or SW. The only thing I use tap water is when I do water changes on my FW 125 planted angel tank.

The reason I ask is I am assessing the hassle factor of a reactor. I do not want to add 10 hours a month to the maintenance schedule. I do understand doing a media change, and combining that with a water change/clean-up of the sump could allow for many gallons of free rinse, just run the reactor output into the waster water output.
