Well I do weekly water changes but I've switched to the continuous method so I think that is part of the problem.
I'll make a point of dipping out the surface water next time.

All that said, I'm feeling more and more push to build my sump sooner than later. My tank is so full of crap already, I'm running out of room!

I agree... I have a skimmer on my 29 gallon tank and it is amazing how much junk it collects - Definitely don't want that in my water!
