But run super hot and use tons of electricity. No thanks.

Mine has been retired to the salt mixing station.

Not to mention that aweful hum they produce.. And to be honest, the eheim's are basically just like mags but a little quieter IMHO. Sicce and askoll are better pumps imo.

I'm using a waveline dc-6000 (2nd gen) in my 120. It runs my return and 2 reactors. I love it as a pump. I've been using it for over a year without any issues. I haven't even bothered to clean it in that time either.

don't forget the OP asked for 'cheap'... so... mags are 'cheap'... and good cheap... may use more electricity... but... they function well, last long... and are CHEAP... another alternative... A low watt Sicce are measured is louder than Ecoplus(I measured them).. so... with that said... he could choose an ecoplus 1056 from sunlight supply.. it is inexpensive like a mag, and it is a quieter pump than sicce.. and ...for less money... it can handle plenty more head pressure vs the sicce... it does use more watts... but bigger stronger pumps require more watts... of course the best is and will always be Eheim. Also, folks perhaps need to understand head pressure... sure a low watt pump can move 500gph with zero resistance, but, add 4' head pressure to the pump and it moves nearly nothing vs the more powerful, higher watt alternative that moves 60-75% of it's max...

I also use a mag 9 for my 120. I split a little flow over to the fuge side and find the return rate to be just right for skimming and sump performance. They are not very expensive pumps and the mag 9 seems "balanced" just right for a 120.

Even though mag drives run good, they have sharp corners that can damage everything from fingers and other equipment to cracking sump walls.

On a skimmer. I've had a eheim return pump.

I still stand by the suggestion of the jebao dc line. Everyone has pretty much had great luck with them. I've been running Jebao powerhead for over a year now.

If you still don't want the Jebao and want to save some money, then check out ocean runner pumps. Much better than the suggested mag pump.
