Ken I don't see why you couldn't do one side by side you would just have to mess with the tubing

I use an overflow box.

At first I was scared about flooding, etc, but it's never happened and works flawlessly.

Just setting up my tank and had planned an overflow, after much discussion and reading took my tank to a local glass shop and had it drilled for $30 plan to set the rest of my plumbing up this weekend.
