Disco, thanks! I was worried I would need to throw out all this expensive sand and have to buy a new bag. Appreciate the prompt reply!

Live sand = boondoggle

If you want to buy it because it is pre-washed, knock yourself out, but it will make no difference to your tank in the long run.

I'd throw away old sand. It can be brought back but usually isn't worth the hassle. But brand new sand just in a high saline bucket? Meh. Rinse it good. Its fine.

Looks like a close poll, I guese it all comes down to how much you are willing to spend and the time frame in which you want to get the tank cycled and established.

I have a few tanks running so if i saw anything negative i could pull all live stock.

The biggest benefit to live sand vs dead sand is i dont worry about phosphate.

I always suggest a ton of live rock and live sand. I use a minimalist aqua scape and throw live rock in the sump.
Yes and you are very lucky i imagine! Anyone else would have gotten a new cycle and the ammonia would have destroyed 3.95k of those corals. Can you give me the winning numbers on next weeks Mega Millions Lotto

Agree that "live sand" is silly. But your poll does not address the issue posed in title of your thread, an issue that is of life-threatening consequence. Or maybe not. It's just a fish tank dude so chill.

I don't know if live sand is silly or not silly, that is why I'm doing this experiment. The poll is just a added benefit to get the opinion of fellow reefers experience and no, it's not just a fish tank, it is a complex marine environment. BTW, I am the most chillest reefer on this planet! Thank you for posting your opinion on the topic anyway though, everything helps!

Thanks for doing some research and posting! It may not be the typical bacteria, but the question is, will it multiply and do it's job? There may be some advantages to having one strain of bacteria. You just have to weigh things out. You can have a large mix of bacteria but there may be more phosphates in the bag. You can have on strain but not have to worry about phosphates releasing. Not sure which one is best.
