Fish can knock themselves cold. Or faint. I had a hard time getting my yellow watchman goby pair out of a tank I was breaking down---and the chase kicked up so much from the sand that by the time I found the male, he had passed out from want of oxygen. Female was already in the new tank---and I feared her mate was dead or dying, but the destination tank was the clean water I had. I moved him on over. The female went over to him as he lay on the sand and kept nudging him gently until he woke up---he's still alive, both of them healthy, and faring well.

Glad to hear your Gramma is cruising around again. I think a lot of our salty friends are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for.

As others have mentioned, fish jumping out of the tank is common. This usually happens when they feel threatened and in this case, the process of cleaning the tank probably stressed or startled the fish which caused it to leap out of the tank. I've had wrasses do the same thing. It's relatively common. Glad the gramma is doing better.

Not sure I deserved the "Think about what I say" comment because I was really trying to help the OP while also pointing out that your suggestion should have some facts to support it. In this case, some knowledge about the OP's water would be needed to justify that. A fish jumping out of the tank which happens to be a very common thing would not justify nor necessitate the need for buffers. Fish don't jump because of low PH. I guess I could say the same thing to you regarding being smart and thinking about what you say. Some people come here with little knowledge about reef tanks, let alone water chemistry or in this case, why his fish may have jumped. Providing sound advice based on facts is more helpful than a recommendation without any facts. Especially when it comes to additives. This is afterall the New To The Hobby section where people come to get sound advice. Anyhow, as I said, I didn't intend nor mean to offend you. I felt it important to point out that additives should only be used when needed and if there isn't a PH issue, there is no need to use a buffer in my experience.

I was working at a fish store a while back, and the sweetest little girl wanted a goldfish that was in the highest layer of tanks. So I picked her up so she could pick out the exact one she wanted, and when I was getting it for her the sucker jumped right out of the net. It fell about 8 feet onto the concrete right in front of the little girl flopping all around her feet. She started screaming and crying which threw me off my game (maybe it was the angry mother shooting daggers at me) and I missed the last step off the ladder falling on my side. The amount of time it took for me to get up, grab it, and climb back up to put it in the tank seemed like an eternity and the first thing it did was win the lawn dart impersonation award as it went head first right to the bottom.
I sometimes wonder if that little girl ever got a goldfish or if the mother's face got stuck that way, but these are things I'll never know. The good news is I felt like I owed one to the little guy and took him home. He made out just fine. I had him until this most recent move. The only goldfish I'll ever love. Long story short; I'm pretty sure you're little guy is gonna make it. Good luck!
