The only thing that helped me when I was in your situation was blowing all the junk out of the rocks and skimming heavily. I also took rock out and shook it in a bucket of tank water to get the most junk out of the rock. My tank is similar to yours just 1/10th the size.

how old is he tank- my current set up when through the same thing before it got established. I would say if the tank is less than a yr old or around a year old just continue regular routine and it should progressively get better-
also make sure the bottom has flow and no dead spots

I took rocks out and sprayed peroxide on them directly, placed back in tank 4 minutes later (without rinsing), algae was gone within 24 hrs. I learned this from other sites. I did a different rock every week and all my livestock is performing well.

tank is 9 months old at this point- I got a hanna checker and phosphate was at 0.04- that's the issue! I am using phosphate rx and will skim heavier till battle is over!

Do some research on Algae Turf Scrubbers (ATS). Setup correctly, it will eradicate your algae problem. I was struggling with this for awhile, but once I installed it and it kicked in, bye, bye, GHA and others. In addition, I no longer need to run GFO.

I recently installed an ATS and it is growing hair algae. The display has virtually none anymore and the scrubber grows a bunch. Therefore I know that my tank wants to grow hair algae, it's just growing it in a place I can export it. I assume that it would be growing in the tank if it wasn't growing on the scrubber.

Do you use a SURF or HOG? They are pretty expensive.

Check to see if the rock is leeching anything. When I started my tank I cycled my rock for 12 weeks in dark tubs with a lid and power heads moving the water. This is AFTER I bleached them and acid washed them. I let them completely cycle in the trash cans for 12 weeks and when that was over, I tested them in new water to see if they still leached phosphates.

Another thing you can do is dip the rock in peroxide and scrub them with a toothbrush. It is tedious but it works. I did it with my last tank-which is why bleached them and then dipped them in acid.

Caulerpa and other macroalgae.

They also build nice dump bucket algae turf scrubbers.

I would suggest avoiding caulerpa. It's very risky and can easily spread throughout the tank should it go asexual. It's about the most risky and invasive of all marco's. An ATS would be a much safer and more effective solution.

Santa Monica and Turbo Aquatics would be my first two choices.

I've been checking the YouTube vid of there products. The drop 1.2 for my tank sounds like a good fit.
To be honest I never researched scrubbers, is it the best route to go to allow me to feed more and avoid phosphates and algae in display ?
I barely feed as it is to keep algae from taking over, I'd like to feed the hard corals more.

PaulB has a nifty trough to grow algae in that he rigged up. If you're diy-handy that'd be a cheap alternative to try.

If you are going ATS, I wouldn't buy one as they are quite expensive. 3 weeks ago I build a waterfall ATS. Total materials cost me under $30 including a pump. Google DIY algae turf scrubber. It is working wonders.
