Yeah not worth the 100$ IMO. I'm still using mine thoughts it was a gift. The thing that really annoys me is that it has to retract and then extend between each consecutive drum rotation.

Neptune Systems AFS Feeder LOUD

It's loud but works well from my tests. In Theory the auto feeder should be kicking on when your not around.. That being said it would be a little loud if your sitting beside it when it goes off

Why should it be operating when you are not around? That seems an unrealistic expectation.

I think what he meant is that most of us use it for supplemental feeding when we aren't at home. I hand feed my tank at night but I use supplemental feeding to keep my fish happy when I am at work or away during the day. That was my primary reason for getting the AFS as well as for building my thawed frozen food feeder setup. Others (including myself) use auto feeders when they travel while a smaller few use them regardless of whether they are home.

Personally I found t way to big and bulky on the side of s rimless tank. In thinking of trying to mount it in my sump do it drops food right In front of the return pump intake

Well that isn't the way everyone uses an AFS. I feed a variety of foods and use the AFS to automate part of that.

I am around when it operates and shouldn't have to change my feeding times because of the noise.

I'm still using the AFS but I feel it should have been intelligently designed instead of just grabbing someone else's feeder and shoehorning the Apex compatibility onto it.
