Right now the plumbing is for my external Iwaki pump. The only reason I'm shopping for a replacement is cause it's noisy.

But a new Iwaki is going to be loud too? I don't think the design change with the noise issue.

There's also a mod for these where you replace the fan that is driven by the impeller motor with quiet laptop fan. It looks pretty easy and folks seem happy with it. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=828812 Read to the end of the thread, they came up with a better design toward the middle.

I think I'm may going with SICCE Syncra cause you control the flow. Going to do more research on the pump.

In my case i decided to go with the Reef Octopus RODC 5500 because of the warranty of 2 years and i am using the WaterBlaster HY-5500 for 4 years already without a hiccup so i expect that this one has the same quality.
Thanks for everybody's advise.

I'm using external pumps to free up space in the sump.

I'm switching to internal to reduce noise and free up space in the stand. Also, if you have heat issues like your running hotter lights or live someplace warm, external pumps can help that. I run led and live in the frigid north so it's no prob.

I'm not sure I understand the issue. Are you trying to tune the durso?

This!
Had Iwaki 40 external on my 125, switched to Eheim 1262 (running internal in my 30 sump), and LOVE it. No additional heat, freed up room in my stand and WAY quieter...

Since I replaced my pump I have microbubbles in my display tank. The plumbing is the same the only thing I changed was the a 90 fitting on the return line by the pump.
