The water is essentially distilled. In distilling you evaporate water and then condense evaporated water. In dehumidifier you condense evaporated water.

The difference is that distilling in done in a system that intentionally is set up to not contaminate the water.

Dehumidifying is done casually. Wet air is blown over a aluminum grill that has copper piping threading through the grill. The condensate gathers on that and drips to the bottom sometimes caught in a mild steel pan or plastic pan and often drained through a garden hose or PVC pipe.

i've been using dehumidifier 'condensate' for years. our tap water is very hard on rodi systems, i opted for the dehumidfier water. i used to drip it through a di resin, but that was just another pita. then i just started using it straight. mind you i only have a four gallon reef vase. i do daily top ups with it with an all purpose trace element liquid. i also use it for mixing for my phyto.
the water reservoir can get mucky after a while and needs to be rinsed out. you can pour the water over a filter to remove any floaty bits if you like.
i say use it.
