Look at this dude's tank on YouTube... He's been running two a160s over his Reefer 250 since day 1. Being successful at keeping SPS goes well beyond just lighting.

Quick update...
Tank looks vibrant now after adding two t5. No change in SPS growth, LPS love it, cyphastrea show PE like never before.... I wanna replace photon with MH in between those t5. What MH would you recommend that'll cover a 75g well? My DT is in a cool basement, chiller won't be needed. Thx Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

It's not cheap, but I love my ati with reef brite strips.
I prefer using the t5 as the main light source and the reef brite blue strips offer great punch and color to accent the t5.

Over a 75, I'd go with 2 single ended MH pendants run by M80 ballasts with 2 20k Radium bulbs. This can all be purchased through Hamilton Technology. Be sure to specify M80 ballasts in the Cayman Sun link.

How big is your DT and how many t5 bulbs?I've heard this t5/ledcombo to work great from another local friend. I did check MH prices, that is pricey. For two pendants new incl ballast bulb~700! Based on size limitations and requirement being 150w, I've narrowed it to these two: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/15-de-...eef-brite.html Dimensions - 15" x 8.75" x 4.5" & http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/bimini...-hamilton.html Dimensions: 10.5"L x 11.5"W x 2.5"H =========================== If I get MH...Mostly will go with first one...Since I can stick LED strips if needed between MH&t5. Can these lights operate using RKL pc4? Can one ballast control 2 pendants? Thx......

There is mild shimmer but nothing like kessils or MH but honestly it doesn't matter to me as the corals look great
Display tank is a standard 75 gallon. I used a 6x54 watt ati t5 fixture. I added 2 4' reef brite strips as well. This tank did not NEED more light, but I am upgrading soon and figured I'd just get it set up and check it out. I was considering going with gen 4 radion pros but have been EXTREMELY happy with the results from this setup.

If you are serious about MH, then just call Hamilton. They will make sure that you end up with the right ballasts and stuff. You can also look used. Prices are not as cheap now that folks have figured out that LED is not the bee's knees, but they can still be found pretty reasonably priced... just don't trust anybody with bulb life and buy new ones.

Growth is part of it, but colors are great too. Par is high with some pieces at over 750-850 par. It's certainly overkill on this tank, but will be perfect for the Red Sea 625XXL that I'll be picking up when they get released.

Yes, I would skip Bulk Reef Supply and go right to the source.
For 250w, go SE and get 20K Radiums on M80 ballasts. For 150W, go DE in a large fixture with 14K Phoenix and M81 Ballasts. I would get as big of a reflector as you can fit - even a smaller one has next to no shadows compared to a point source LED, but the bigger ones eliminate it nearly all together. That fixture is nice. If you like the all-in-one and want to hang it, then go for it. |

I called Hamilton, rep said go with SE only.. Bali sun pendant,175w bulb and ballast: $279ea. Cebu 175w T5 and mh combo is $879. So a diff of$321....between two. Free shipping. OTOH, BRS sells this for $800. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/4-ft-c...FcxXDQod2x4GXQ Wish they had 175w version... Still debating, I can't add many retro since I'll run out of space front to back mine's a 75g. I think I'll ask Hamilton if they can PM BRS and reduce a bit for a 175w cebu 48"hybrid. Approx how much Will be the running cost of these halide if I run 5hr daily? Thx all

The only reason I caution you on the 175 watt is the limited bulb choice. In the 150 DE and the 250 SE there are a lot more bulb choices readily available.

Hamilton said every orders custom order custom made so I'll make sure I call them and ask them this question that is if the bulb that is 150 watt... can be used for this combo fixture Will corals suffer if I put 250w MH? The rep also told that DE are very tricky to switch bulbs, is that true.. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

Alright I finally bought a used system...
2 pendants, 2 ballasts, 2 cords, shipping, and 2 PC1's all for $320! Ordered two 250w 20k radium... This is the pendant whose name isn't known. I have 2 20 amp outlets(one gfci, one regular) with 2 outlets each. Since this is 20amp outlets, can I get a one to two three prong adapter and use one outlet in that GFCI ..to feed those two electronic ballasts? I'll use pc1 to run the MHlights... Thx

Those will be like 5-6 amps. Use the non-gfci, IMO.
