i have one. great shorty skimmer.
Thanks. I see that your skimmer has a controller. There was no mention of that on their website. So I thought that the one I purchased did not have it, which is what I prefer.
I emailed Paul, but unfortunately no response. Sad.

Too bad BRS didn’t carry them.

i removed the air silencer and run it into my overflow chamber to pick up moisture.

the airstar DCT pump is mentioned in the specs tab for the skimmer

all DCT's are controller based

So got the skimmer today. Looking really rough in a brown packaging box, with no instructions.
Also weird that this skimmer has a vertical seam on the body itself. And the seams are low quality.
Looks like a prototype.

Now I feel bad! Apparently ATB has dropped the ball! I built them up as a viable option and they let you down! That quality shown in the picture is not what I experienced as well as the service end. I hope things get resolved very fast and once again I apologize for steering you towards them if this is what the company is now lowered themselves to! I have never had an issue with the units or service. Once again I hope this gets resolved pronto!

thats not right

return it. here's mine

nano one 15.jpg

i'd tell them you need to return it and for them to give you an 840 instead. or at least give you a great deal on one.

that's not the ATB i've dealt with in the past. very disappointing.

They are telling you that the pump is a Jebao DCT.

Little ATB history (from my friend Victor, who started ATB USA). The seamless molded cones (just the acrylic cone itself) come from China. They were made to speed up construction time to meet the growing demand in the US. The skimmer is still assembled in Austria. The cones with the seam are made in house from a flat sheet, heated and bent over a mold then hot air welded. Those cones are significantly thicker in construction vs the seamless molded cones.

Did you mean in-house as in, someone's garage? That explains even the quality of the seams.

Not sure what you mean, the pump is an Airstar. Is that Jebao? And no, Paul Dubois did not tell me anything.

HE DID NOT RESPOND TO MY QUESTION.

You meant well. The skimmer I received must be a fluke.
No need to apologize. Still thanking all for the suggestions.

In house means
in the ATB facility in Austria.

The pimp is a jebao with a milled volute and needlewheel and a ATB Airstar sticker, Just like the original Royal Exclusive was an Italian made Askoll motor with the same modifications and a Red Dragon sticker.

The original ATBs used Eheim pumps and Askoll pumps. Later then swapped out the Eheims on the smaller models to Sicce. They now have swapped the Askolls and Sicces to Jebaos.

In today’s standards, expectations are much higher, especially from ATB. Don’t you agree?
So there’s really no excuse.
Often, Chinese made products get lambasted, but the quality coming from there have come a long way.

Funny their website says Italian pumps.

That’s it. I just pray that I won’t need any support for the skimmer, if it does arrive.

1st communication was after the purchase.

That is obviously left over from when they ran Sicce and askoll. Trust me, they are not a deceptive company. I haven’t seen many issues in using jebao pumps as skimmer pumps. ATI also uses them on their power cone skimmers which is an awesome performing skimmer.

I’m not even really complaining about the pump at this point. Just shocked at the lack of quality on the body of the skimmer. They really should not be selling this. It looks like someone’s made it in a garage.
He claims that’s how they are made. But someone else with the same skimmer, has a totally different body.

I have a custom rimless tank for a reason. I like clean lines.

I just wanted to add, I’m sure the wrong information on the website is not deliberate. But is considered false advertising. I advice that this gets corrected sap.
In this day and age of online shopping, we all depend on information on websites.
All the images on their site did not show any unsightly seam. They all looked perfect.

I agree 100% but I know ATB USA is now a one man show and sometimes these things happen. I personally ditched my plan to use ATB on my build. I just didn't like the direction the company was going.

The decision is up to you on how you handle this situation. I wouldn't accept it if it were me, not at those prices. There are a lot of great skimmers on the market. My choice for best bang for the buck is Somatic. The build quality is stellar and the pumps are Sicce so the reliability is there. For premium skimmers my choice is Vertex and Royal Exclusiv. I do have to say, the new Reef Octopus are really coming up in my rankings since the new Varios pumps have been very reliable.
