the TRUE BLACK TANG has a green line that follows his lateral line that runs the entire length of his body. it is right below his top fin. before i take him out and treat him, are we sure that it is a fungus? and can i use pimafix?

ANOTHER TRIED AND TRUE REMEDY IN QUICK FIX SIUTATIONS--IS A PRODUCT CALLED "STOP PARASITES" THIS CAN BE USED IN THE MAIN TANK--I HAVE FOUND THAT QT'ING A FISH AFTER PLACING HIM IN THE MAIN TANK AFTER A LONG SHIPPING IS ASKING FOR PROBLEMS--LOOK INTO TO STOP PARASITES

Good question: First we need to determine if it is a parasite or a fungus. Do a web search and see if you can find the maracyn chart that helps diagnos disease. Second, it is a parasite threat immediately and feed with seaweed soaked in vitamin suppliment--ie the zoe product--sorry for not being 100% accurate with my name for this stuff, however I have not kept tangs in years--however when I did the three suggestions worked for me at differant times--first we need to determine what it is --it looks like a fungus--if correct get maracyn; if not get stop parasites--regardless get that fish some enriched seaweed--that held assist in recovery and greatly prevents LLD

answer these questions and determine what the tang has--I suspect a fungus--hence maroxy will be needed |

i would wait too with tangs it could have been brought on by stress and not anything that attacked him per say. in other words it may subside when he settles in. tangs are tough..very prone to infections but remeadied easily with streess free envirnment and good nutrition. id wait if he is eating feed him more without threatening your water quality.

ok, i like that approach better. he is the only other fish in a 120 gallon tank except for 3 anthias, and 3 wrasses, so he isnt scared and he should have a stress free environment. from the website with the chart-i think it is a fungus. the guy i ordered it from said it didnt have it when it left, so it must have developed in the last 24 hours. so maybe reefD is right.

fungus is brought on by stress--a good water change and a wait and see approach may work--however at over 300 bucks I would take a more preemptive approach

money is an issue but be confident that prestine water with aged bacteria present will elevate the situation. make sure he gets some algae sheets. but like said if things dont improve in 48 hours then you need to do something else.

My fear is that if the fungus gets inside the tangs system that's when the game is over--the window for these things is a couple of days--however give it a day and prepare--take some time and research what the ailment actually is--that link i charted will afford you the ability to answer some questions and diagnos the fish--good luck--night

BTW...to answer your previous question... do not use PimaFix. Both MelaFix and PimaFix and natural remedies to help fish recover from different ailments, HOWEVER, they are not medicines. They do have their uses but if you can pinpoint a specific illness in a fish, it's much better to use a specific med to combact the disease in a hospital tank. In this case, I'd agree it's a fungus. All the Mardel products (Maroxy, Maracyn and MaracynII) can be used together.
If the area doesn't significantly improve within the next day or two, I'd put the tank in a hospital tank and medicate with Maracyn and Maroxy. Tom |

well. i could not find maracyn locally. so i just picked up some pimafix which says that it gets rid of body fungus. he is eating a little bit better than yesterday, but still not as good as i would like to see. the patch of fungus has not grown nor subsided so i will see.
