It seems that every skimmer works best at different levels. I keep my water level about 1/2" above the red ring. Mine seems to do the best right there. Any higher and the skimmate gets a little wet for my liking as I am not at home enough to keep an eye on the salinity.
Likewise, I can keep the water level right at the red ring and still produce some pretty nice crap.
