i think 2 6100 in a 120 is too much flow. i have a 180gal bb with two 6100's and i have to keep them no more then half way up on the controller if not, everything would start blowing away. i think if you get 6000's you would have the option of turning up all the way or turning down without a problem. unless you see yourself upgrading anytime soon to atleast a 200gal. i would go with two 6000's

I don't think you would be happy with just the 1 Vortech. It won't give you nearly the flow that you have now. I would think you would want 2 Vortech's and you can't even control them yet.

I have 2 6100s in my 120 and am adding a third. Two alone are not even that much imo. As far as how much the third helps we shall have to see when I get it set up. I also have a dart for my return pump. If you do go with 6000s they can be upgraded to a 6100 by swaping out the transformer.

I am very happy with my setup by the way. I just wanted to try a bit more. And I forgot to mention I use the multicontroller which is priceless imo. The other good things about tunzes is when bought used you can easily get your money back out of them.

This item is newer than new. I believe that barring unforseeable problems, the vortech may overtake the tunze stream movement. If the company is knowledgeable, they will surely put out the accessories everyone wants; ie. controller flow directional devices, etc.

Tunze will have a battery back up in about 45 days.

It would be cool if you could direct the flow of the vortech as well as scoot it along the glass like an algea cleaning magnet.

Several people have said they have one on their tank (a Vortech that is) but as was pointed out by someone on the first page, its listed as "pre-order only" pretty much everywhere. How are those of you who have them getting them? Are you partaking in a beta test or something?

As PITSTOP said, many were shipped out in the first batch weeks ago. I know at least 1/2 dozen people with them. Just about every single one of them has had problems with them as well. Read on for a quote from Tim (from Vortech):

Quote:

Customers,

We made a poor materials choice when we switched from metal drive shafts to plastic toward the end of beta prototyping. We've already sent out new drive shafts made from a better plastic for this application. If you own two pumps, you will have two parts arriving.

Included with the driveshaft is a drawing showing where to install the part. It is a very simple installation.

We appologize for any inconvienence this may have caused.

Feel free to contact us with any questions.

-Tim

hrm, gotta love beta testing for a company for 345 a pop ..

I just picked up 2x6000 and a 7095 for my 120. I love the flow, it has completely rearranged my SSB, a serious upgrade from 2 820 sieo super craps.

I got the 6000's and plan to upgrade the transformer in the future when I go big .

Do you know where they were shipped from? Is it a specific vendor that had the first batch? Or have the Marine Depots, etc just failed to update their site?

I will probably wait while they get the bugs out, but I think I see a couple of these in my future.

You can't move the pump while its in operation and once you move it you have to 'reset' it. I would also think that IC/Ecotec would tell you to note drag it around like that, can't be good for it.

If you want an algae magnet get a $6 mag float, not a $345 one

People who own Tunze will vote for Tunze. People who bought Vortech will vote for Vortech.

It's all about what you want.

For me, Tunze is proven, controllable, aimable, and customer service is excellent. When Vortech can be all of these, then I may consider them as well...but not until then.

Man don't get me excited like that. I checked with Roger and he said they're working on it, but it won't be until close to the end of the year.

As for the two Johnsteph said it best - however I think one might be better than the other in different applications. I'm putting a 6100 on a WaveseaPlus and it will oscillate in my tank, I could never use Vortech for that. But I'm thinking about a Vortech to put on the side of my tank in the bottom back corner to keep detritus from collecting back there. It would probably be a better choice than the Tunze.

I've read that the Vortech has a wide flow, but the screen on the 6200 has a superwide flow (I also replaced my 6100's with 6200 screens) - and I still found it necessary to direct the flow with a wide tank.

I'm anxious to see Phil's Vortech!

Roger will have better idea when he goes to Germany in a few days but i think the battery back up will be out much sooner than that.

I hope you're right. But this is what I just received from Roger so I'm gonna take Roger's word on what Roger knows ...

"We are working on some alternative power supplies but it is unlikely anything will be ready until at least November."

Maybe US availability is built into his time frame?

The TUNZE is a great proven product. It has controllers and awesome flow. The drawback is it looks like a giant trashcan in a tank. If Vortechs live up to the hype, they are more aestecally pleasing and you can hide them. I think that is where they have an edge. Although there is nothing wrong with looking at a TUNZE either, I just prefer more space for the corals etc.

I'm just saying that scooting it around would be cool because that would give you another way to easily change the direction of flow.
