i think the word he was looking for was "macro". i wouldnt suggest removing all of your substraight at once or syphoning your sandbed which could cause what little biological filtration you have to collapse. i would however remove the cc. do it in thirds at a time instead of all at once so the bacteria have time to colonize in the new sand before you take out the other old portions of cc.
also i agree with mbbuna. you should slow your feeding down a fair amount. watch your fish. if food is hitting the bottum and drifting under rocks, your feeding to much.
a fuge is a good idea as well. it will help in keeping nitrates at a decent level but as said earlier, its better to confront the cause rather then put a band aid on the repercusions of the original problem. good luck

i agree that syphoning a properly set up sand bed is not a good thing to do, but this bed is not set up properly and IMO is not contributing to biological filtration. better to get all the waste out then let it continue to rot where it is

I need to constantly adjust it but seems ok I guess. I have read the thread about modifying the seaclone but haven't tried it yet.
I have to empty the cup about every week and it is only 1/4 to 1/3 full

be sure to rinse your carbon as they hold nitrites
