55semireef, I don't know what would happen if you siphoned it away, little by little. Well, how much is in your tank? Could you pull everything out into a temporary container including nearly all the water, remove the DSB all at once, put everything back including your new substrate and do a small water change at the same time?

Removing my DSB completely would not be good. That would start a mini cycle and could even cause a small spike of ammonia.
Although, I do have plenty of LR to back it up. Siphoning little by little each water change would take care of its self. I don't want to do anything major bc I am afraid my corals would die. I want to make it very subtle so that way the chemistry of my water is stable to the max. |
