great service from mjmods and worth the $$$

the only thing i can share to make them more quiet is to not remove the inner plastic out of the magnet. since the magnet is not round to begin with centering it is almost impossable on some magnets equalling noise.

i have a 900 i have to bring to the surface to start no biggie and i got the magnet centered enough so its not that bad as far as noise is concerned using carbon rods.

my 1200 the magnet hole is not round enough and it vibrates quite a bit. lots of noise but it works great so i use it in the day when you cant hear it.

all in all with patients there worth it

Cosmo^Kramer thanks for the compliments...

When the people brought it in and set it in place, I couldn't believe my eyes. It fit perfectly, "hugged" the staircase and became part of the house.

My wife's requirement was to have no visible wires, cables, hoses, hardware, etc. People would only be able to see just the built-in cabinet and the aquarium.
I had better listen or else...

Just thought I'd chime in after about 2 weeks of use on my mjmod 1200. I mounted it to a magnet and the noise is all but gone, just a slight hum that's no louder than the hum of the 3 powerheads I removed after installing the MJmod.

The flow in my 55 is just plain nuts, it's too much in fact, so I had to re-arange the corals and move some rocks to help catch some flow and divert it around the tank. As of yesterday, the inhabitants are adapting quite nicely, all the corals have puffed back up to their pre-mjmod days and my sand is now about 8 inches high on one corner and 4 inches on the other, but oh well, it's clean at least. My rocks are no longer covered w/crap as they used to be and everything gets blasted off and sucked down the overflow into the skimmer. In short I love the modded MJ1200, highly recommend the easy and cheap mod.

I just bought 2 tunze 6000 and a multicontroler. I would say I have more money than brains, but.....I have no money either.

The big thing with the Tunze is the single/multi controllers. That is where it comes out ahead of the mods.

2) Reefdom.com: Parts for $60 + $20 for the MJ1200 and w/o magnet holder = $80

3) Tunze Turbelle nano stream 6045 for $96.63 with magnet holder.

Wouldn't I be better off waiting for the Tunze?

Thanks for your inputs...
1) MJMods-too much DIY, must use old impeller, and need a holder(bracket/magnet or otherwise). Many noise complaints.

2) Reefdom.com which is now Oceanflo.com.-All parts included(including a whole new already assembled impeller with fan blade) and pre made. Much nicer/professional looking. Absolutely no noise.

3) Tunze-the big ones are great and the controller makes it worth the extra $. The new nanostreams would be the way to go for a new addition, especially the controllable one.

I have a Tunze Strean 6000 w/singlecontroller, a Oceanflo.com modded maxijet, and one Penguin 300gph PH(too be a changed out for an oceanflo modded MJ or maybe a nanostream)

FWIW, reefdom was running some maximods on a SEIO controller at MACNA, from what I hear. So that may be an interesting developement.

Well, it only moves about 1/2 the water that a maximod does, so take that into consideration. Plus take into consideration that a tunze prop costs more than an entire maxijet, so if you have problems with the tunze, its gonna cost you.

The Oceanflo looks pretty nice though...I may just go with that. The nice thing about the Oceanflo is the sweet mounting bracket. I'll have to buy/make a bracket for the MJmod; it seems it will all add up to about the same..?

I'll admit that once you buy your $35 (shipped) MJmod kit and use a mag float to mount it you're probably at the same price as the oceanflo. The only thing w/the oceanflo is the mounting bracket.....it looks cool but it stil uses the suction cups and the will inevitibly fail.....probably at 3 am and you'll wake up to find a sand storm and all your corals not doing well. I used my suction cups to mount my mjmod the 1st night and it fell 3 times so I took it out of the tank and mounted a mag float the next night, now it's perfect and quiet.

Its a piece of acrylic heated with a torch (or gas stove). Its not all that complicated.

Their mods are great, but buying one because of the mounting bracket is silly.

I'd personally never use the suction cup mount on even a stock MJ at 295 GPH, never in a million years would i use one on a 2,000 GPH pump. suction cups "always" fail at some point and it always happens when your not around to see it .... Spend the extra few bucks and get the oceanflow with the acrylic mounting bracket that rich spoke of above. If you don't spend it now you will once you see what happens once the suction cups break free while your at work or sleeping. (doubly so for people with sand beds)

Keep in mind that for years everyone has been using the "free" option where you glue the rectangle bracket on the back of the MJ and use the hanger that comes with the the stock MJ. Long as you take the time to glue it well and give the glue time to cure properly it works extremely well on glass tanks. This will work well for both the oceanflow and the DIY versions.

Because i have seen this price stated a few times I wanted to point out that this price is inaccurate . We used to sell a "deluxe" kit for that much. for more info please visit this thread in the mjmods forum of reef central.

Like many things in this hobby, there is plenty of equipment that will get the job done cheaply. Then there is the next level of equipment that gets it done better. Mag vs. Eheim, MJMod vs. Tunze, Octopus vs. EuroReef, EuroReef vs. Bubble King...

Of course...I was just using a "safe estimate" w/ the shipping & handling. Thanks!

Well said.

I wouldn't change my Tunze's w/ controller for MJ mods ever. I have a bucket full of 1200's that I took at of my tank about 4 months ago and that's where they are goinng to stay.

My MJmods are just as quiet as my Seios. In fact I just took out a Seio 820 because it's too big for the amount of flow it puts out, compaed to my Maxi's. I didnt know about that oceanflo place till today.
Especially if you already have the maxijets hanging around anyway, the mods are a great way to go. I love mine.
I epoxied a magnet to the back of it and it works great.

Chris
