Thanks KingKong.
Actually my total system is almost 400g (210 main with mostly sps some zoos, 58 with zoos shrooms and zenia, 100g sump). Think I'll be looking at the bigger model. From what I understand you can just dump a ton of kalk in there and it will slowly get used as you pass fresh water. So with the bigger model you have to add kalk less often (doesn't go bad sitting there not in solution at the bottom).

How hard is it to remove the top on the AM?

i have tried the mrc kalk reactor, but i have found that if you have the room, you are better off buying a large drum,{ i use a 55 gallon from usplastics,(under 100 shipped)} as a reservoir.

i refill that every two weeks or so with rodi and dump some mrs. wages in. no pump is needed to keep it saturated, just mix it when filling, then forget it for a few weeks. i use a litermeter 3 for kalk and future two part dosing

The drain valve is about 1" from the top and as my Tunze fills the chamber with water, it just drips the kalkwasser water into a highflow area of my sump. Great and very simple concept. Only uses about 3-4watts of electricity. What I like is that every corner of the chamber is continuously turned over without caking.

Hi there,
Can you tell me how this works with the Tunze? How is that mounted in conjunction with the sump and the RO water supply? How far can it suck in water and deliver it? I was thinking of putting the resevoir of RO water in the closet and then have a dosing pump etc pump the water to the Stirrer.

Thanks,
Ken

My Deltec KM500 is right next to my sump, inside the stand cabinet. I know that some hobbyist actually have the unit inside the sump and that shouldn't be a problem. My reservoir is a 7g bucket of freshwater and it is also next to my sump. When I was first testing, the bucket was about outside my stand cabinet and about 3ft away, but I made room to fit it all within my stand. The Tunze has it's own fill pump that is directly connected to the main unit and the main unit is controlled by the optical sensor with a backup float switch. When the waterlevel drops below the optical sensor, the Tunze pumps water into the KM500. The KM500 is designed so that the water fills near the bottom of the unit and as the water level within the KM500 fills, it just overflows from the drain into my sump by a short piece of vinyl tubing. There is never a change of flooding either the unit or the sump because of the backup float switch that I've set about 1" above the optical sensor. Sorry, I don't have a way to get good photos as everything is too tight where it is located.

I run an Aquatics System Design Kalk reactor and I love it.

My pH use to drop to 7.69 every night and then go up to 8.5 at the peak of the day. Obviously dripping kalk would require a LOT of attention to make sure not to drip during the day.

So I set up my kalk reactor with my autotopoff and my Reefkeeper 2 so that my kalk reactor only runs when both:
a) the water level is low
b) the pH is below 8.4

Thanks. I am going to look into it to supplement my Ca reactor. Do you know though if the Tunze can pump water from about 10-12 feet away?

ken6217,
Only info I could find on them is this:
Replacement Metering pump for Osmolator or Osmomat

Metering pump capacity: 2.95ft: 13.74gph, 4.92ft: 12.42gph, 6.56ft: 7.13gph
Max. Height: 7.22ft

Not sure how that would translate into ft away. You may want to ask in the Tunze forum
I pump it through my Geo reactor that is about 5ft away with no problems.

I'm looking at the Tunze pump for a topoff pump. Can it be run external with a line in and out or does it have to be submerged? I just want it to pull limewater out of a 44G reservoir and pump it ~ 4' vertical. The vertical is a bit much for my Aqualifter. I can chain 2 of them together and it works, but looking at other options.

It has to be submerged as it has a small intake hole on the bottom with no way to hook a line to it..
Power feed is white cable in pics

OUT LINE (black tube)

Thanks for the info. That's what it looked like in the pic.

If I had it submerged in a large (44G) container of limewater, but off the bottom, think it would work, or would the limewater kill it? Is the pump turned off and on by switching AC or DC power?

It runs off 9-12V dc from a converter (has switch to go 9 or 12 and supplied by Tunze) Top off controller switches on/off
I dont see why it wouldnt work as it sits on the bottom in mine but its in plain RO/DI water. Tunze book says not good idea to put in limewater as it will kill the pump prematurely from the calcium contact....PM me as I have one you could try it with...

I have the Osmolator, but I pump from a reservoir of RO/DI through my AM kalk stirrer. It works fine. I wouldn't run that pump in limewater...first it sits on the bottom, very low...any settling residue will clog the thing almost immediately I would think. The replacement pumps are cheap but still.

I would sit it up off the bottom. I think I'm going to pass on trying it. I'll use two Aqualifters in series and see how that does.
