Good point about the polyp extension not always being a good thing. I just thought I would experiment with the flow to see if the polyps actually come out during the daylight hours.

When you mention that you aim your 6100 on your back wall, I assume that it's mounted on the end of your tank though. That is fine since you are still blasting it lengthwise on your tank, even if it's bouncing off the front or back of the tank since the flow is going the length of the tank. But with mine, it would almost be like you mounting yours on the front of the tank and aiming it at the back of your tank. Not very effective but I get your point though

actually it is in a deco rock, aimed up at the back wall, so it is in the middle of the tank, less than 8 inches from the glass it is facing.
in this pic the green w purple rim cap on the right side is attached to the deco rock, the flow peaks at the surface directly behind the middle standpipe, which has the rubberbands around it.

thanks, now im just waiting for stuff to grow in; i really need to install a no new frags policy, but...

- just looked at my tank after the lights were out. I had been taking pictures earlier so some of my flow pumps were still off (6100 was still on along with the return, and the polyps were more inflated than i usually observe in this tank, but it might just be because they weren't getting moved around near as much. I turned the modded mj's back on.

mille's not having pe is really weird, i've never experienced that. I have green mille four feet directly infront of a 6200 and it is my fastest growing acro, so if anything turn those streams up imo.
Actually, my pink milli has some of the worst PE in my tank. Always has. No clue why. It's growing. Other millis look like shaving brushes

20" off of the water for the halides might be a bit high, most people average 7" to 12" i believe.

Actually what I meant to say is 20cm, haha 20" would be like almost 2 feet!

So a little under 10" is how high it really is

Metric makes sense.......

Although in Canada we kinda take our own approach. Speed and distance is in kilometers (per hour). Weight is usually in pounds when talking about someones weight..but when talking about the weight of an item it might be in kilograms. When shoping for most tools and hardware depending on the industry a lot times its standard inches but then again you pretty much have to have 2 sets of tools.

Some people still can't comprehend the celcius when it comes to temperature.....I'm somewhat young and was taught celius over farenheit. I think I want to sing canadian idiot right now.

It can get confusing....sorry to get off subject. Dirty...very wierd problem ....especially since eveything sounds healthy. I would start looking at the fish funny.

I recently have great polyp extension for a few months now before i don't know what was wrong? I have the same fish and the only thing that I changed was I added bacteria
http://www.robsreef.com/Merchant2/me...gory_Code=prod
the polyps opened up and i noticed weekly additions of this good bacteria helped to increase polyp extension . Now I hold off on the bacteria and the polyps are still out.
Your live rock is sometimes not enough to support the nitrification cycle. ?? this is my theory?

I used a product similar to prodibio and this did lower my nitrates down to zero but didn't help with PE. I am not totally convinced that the lack of PE is due to nitrates, but would love to entertain ideas telling me otherwise

IMO If you have nipping angels or whatever in your tank this is probably the culprit. I had 2 angels in my old sps tank and the coral actually knew what certain spots of it would not get picked on. It would have great pe on the inside of the branches not the outside or the tips. I would yank any angels and watch the polyps rage in all their glory. The coral is probably protecting itself from nips. I now have no nipping fish in my current setup and guess what great pe!. ( it's going to be a pain to catch them but just do it).

Talking Pump up your polyps

Prodibio has a specific type of bacteria that may be just the right one ?
If your trying to order some prodibio make sure they have it in stock
There are problems importing the stuff from France with all the import regulations and biological warfare etc.
This bacteria had the same results in my friends tank... after 24hrs his sps polyps were PUMPED UP!
