Do you have anything positive to say this guy or not, all you have done is criticize him, he is asking for help with his project and to me seems like he has a pretty good hold on things.

i understand what your saying it just seeems like allot of work to put in to have it fail
my only concern is for the health of the life in his tank and the house/apt that the tanks are in if i was a landlord and saw that setup i would evict immediatly.
my hope is that he will read this and say damn that would be allot of work and at the end i still would not be able to keep the angel since it will get too big for any of those tanks.

p.s. i would love to do the same thing so i could keep every stupid fish i thought looked cool but its called responsible reefkeeping not impulsive reefkeeping

I hate hearing "it will fail". That tell me nothing. Why would it fail. Constuctive critism is welcome. Not that you know everything will be drilled what is your concern?

no concern and i really like the lil nano in the bookshelf i hope it all works out for you i am not concerned by anything
i think it could be cool if done right and i will lend any advice i have without any judgement
the only thing that will fail is a series of hob overflows i know that people have run them a long time without a failure but i also know that when they do fail they can do allot of damage i hope you get this figured out my advice would be to build a shelf system to hold them all to make plumbing easier.

Back to the pump question, I would go with the 3000. I have two in use on my setup now. I would not worry about the noise as they are in my bedroom and the loudest thing I can hear from my tank is the airline on my skimmer. You can also throttle the pump back using a ball valve.

I am also using a SCWD on my closed loop that I have setup, you should come by and check it out. Maybe get some ideas.

I kinda agree on the HOB overflow...when I switched...I was so much more happy, and I didn't have a bunch of tanks hooked together.

As far as turnover...I have over 6000 gph in a 128...a little too much for my gorg...I've reduced the flow to just over 4000 gph, and it working well. From what I know of gorgs...you need pretty high flow to keep algae from growing on there....
