If your dimensions are 84lx24wx30h than I would say 14"-16" bulb to the water so a canopy of at leat 22" will allow for coral growth down the line. You will have to test and see - you may be fine with 14". Mike L.'s(Acropora Nut's) tank is 32" wide and 30" tall and he gets plenty of light 14.5" from bulb to the water. You have a 7ft tank so going up to 15" or 16" might be optimal. Just have to try it out

I would go with a 24" canopy if you can just to have the space and that would allow 18" bulb placement which should be plenty of room for most systems fully grown.

I was initially concerned about such a large canopy but I think it will look OK. This is a pretty massive tank anyway and my wife already said "That tank is too big" Too late to turn back now!

Your not going to burn your corals if you use good acclimation meathods. Mike Acropora nut has corals right under the light and they look amazing. No burns.

I have a 120gal 48x24x24 tank and wanted to know if a single Lumen Bright Mini would cover a 2x2 area 7-8 inches off the tank? Should I go with the Regular's, they just seem big for a 48x24x24 tank.

Thanks for any input, just looking to upgrade my light coverage.

I have the same dimensions tank and was recomended by Mike (acroporanut) and jraquatics to get the mini's. The larger ones spill too much light over the rim of the tank wasting the light on that size tank. They both recommend starting the height with the bulb 15" off the water.

I saw some labled as pendants for 5 bucks more than the reflectors but was was told their the HQI reflectors by those on the thread. I really want pendants!!

I called hellolights yesterday and they will have pendants in three weeks. Acroporanut said he will have them shortly as well.

you "could" do it, but you'll definately notice the different reflectors with the different amount of light output.

If you already have the Lumenarc, try it out with two LumenBrights and see what you think. If you don't like it, buy another LB and I am sure someone will be interested in your used LumenArc.

It seems like you must have one otherwise why not buy all the same? If you have three LB's 2ftx2ft raised at the same height you will get an even spread guaranteed

You will get more light with 3 LumenBrights with that kind of crossover with the left and right bulb. I have seen and tested it several times already. The numbers are even due to the crossover light. A thing of beauty when you allow multiple reflectors do what they were meant to.

Lately I have noticed that the outside reflectors really don't need to be evenly placed and can be moved in as much as 6-8 inches off the side of your tank. If you are 13-14" or more bulb to the surface of the water you will certainly have adequate spread to the ends of the tank. Chances are you are not going to be growing things on the side glass 12" off the bottom so you don't need the light to spread there. Bringing them in a bit towards the middle will assure very even high PAR lighting throughout the tank.

Let us know what you decide and post some pics up when you get them. Everyone wants to see these things set up. I think it really helps to get a visual of how these reflectors look hung up and inside of different canopies.

Post some pics guys and gals - I know some of you are holding out...

Will the pendants actually have a black shell that will cover the raw reflector? I was thinking about just painting the outside of the reflector black.

I have a AGA 180 (72x24x24) built into a masonry wall with a max clearance above waterline of 13.5 inches. It is lit with 3 250watt XM 15ks and old gull wing parabolic reflectors. Tank is 2 years old with many large sps colonies positioned mostly mid to high. A combination reef wall sides/center pillar aquascape 2 clams on the bottom, currently with no heat problems. I would like to replace the reflectors with the Lumen Brites, however I am a little worried about bulb height off the water with these, as well as light coverage in that shallow of a space. Now I have 11 inches (bulb to surface) clearance off the water with the old reflectors. lastly, do you all think that the large Brites would give better spread at the lower height than the Minis?

I have 2 mini Lumenbrites over my 120 right now.
I have 2x400w 20k XM bulbs.
Bulbs are 16" from the water and I am getting incredible coverage even deep in the tank and in the corners...

Einsteins, nice tank! It seems to be that the position of the bulbs in these reflectors is about half way / or at the mid point. In my setup this would be really close to the water, possibly 9â€ depending on the dimensions of these reflectors. Do you know or could you measure the distance from the bulb edge closest to the water to the back of the reflector, so I can get an idea of the back spacing.
