Thanks DragonWarriorPo! I think the corals where getting sufficient par as far as i'm concern with the 2 actinics, however i've since replaced this two bulbs with blue plus temporarily. Will try to get a FTS with all the lights on....

sorry about the lack of update folks..... so as it stand the system is still somewhat running.....

just a quick recap on how the system have been doing, from mid spring to end of summer I was running the system with 4 T5 bulbs only, this was due to one of the ballast on the fixture broke and I just got complacent changing the ballast. The effect on the system was minor color lost most noticeable on the Tyree pink lemonade. In the beginning of the year i've also upgrade the skimmer from Skimz 201 to BK mini 200 however mid summer the pump on the skimmer died and i've since then change the skimmer to the Vertex Omega 180 so far so good!!!

here are some photos to get the thread back on track!

one of my first frag from a local reefer took forever to grow and color up

acquired from RR Canada as a yellow stag frag (sorry no fancy name!)

ice fire echinata that needs a little bit more light to get the cream body back

grafted montipora

no introduction needed! superman montipora!

green eyed dragon from RR Canada

yellow with pink tip body with green polyp (i think pocillopora)

random trio!

I not sure i rigth understand what you explain : are you running up to date with 4 T5 bulb or have you upgrade the defect ballast. Your tank shoots are allways a pleasure to see.

Just curious why you upgraded your skimmer? Was the Skimz 201 under performing?

teebone110 - the Skimz 201 wasn't underperforming per say however I've always wanted a BK and I couldn't pass on what i thought was a great deal on the BK Mini.... however I think there is something to be said about how well the Vertex Omega 180i perform.

From the reflection of the sides, your SPS has grown tremendously during your absence. Time for a bigger tank, Ian!!

Sorry if you've answered this already, can you show and/or explain your flow throughout the display tank? Are you return lines on the opposite side of the overflow? I have a 135g peninsula (48"x24"x27.5") with two return lines on the same side as the overflow. Just curious how other peninsula'ers are getting water movement through their tanks.

Evan - the return in on the opposite side of the overflow, I also have two tunze 6055 on a tunze controller, one on each side of the return to help push all the water to the overflow. on the overflow side I've placed 4 koralia evo 1500 connected to a red sea wavemaster pro to randomize the flow even more.

here is almost 100% full tank shot, the overflow is on the left side and on the far right hand side you can see the return as well as the tunze pumps. Hope this helps! if you need further clarification let me know!

Thanks. As I mentioned I have my return loclines on the same side as the overflow. I kind of regret it now but I did it to keep the tip of the peninsula completely open for viewing. I'm trying to create upwelling at the tip of the peninsula with my powerheads so that it is then directed back towards the overflow, but plumbing the return like you did would have been practical.

I'm thinking of getting a couple small maxspect gyres when they come out, and setting them low to create a gyre that comes back at the overflow... Who knows though! Beautiful setup, thanks for sharing.

EvMiBo - most people do have the return on the same side as the overflow, in my case i had the luxury of having a canopy so I was hide the plumbing and was able to put the return on the opposite side of the overflow.

I've seen some of those maxspect gyres in youtube and they do look promising! on a different would you happen to have a build thread around here, i wouldnt mind seeing your system!

I do not have a build thread, but if you don't mind I can share some pictures I just took, the third is from a little while ago... (I can take them down if you don't want these in your thread, just let me know!) This tank has been running for about 11 months. I had some issues along the road (NO3's and salinity problems) , so just a couple weeks ago I was confident enough to put some small sps frags in. I put the stand together myself, and created a bean animal 24" "coast to coast". I also drilled the returns through the bean animal. It's so nice having sps corals again, even if they're small.
