Here are some photos of my Arctic 247s in the wood canopy that came with the aquarium. I had to open the hole in the canopy up in order to fit the lights flush with the bottom of the canopy.

Just got my SC 90. It comes with a 5 chamber sump. How are you setting up the chambers?

I pulled out the baffles and turned it into a 3 chamber. The 5 chamber is set op as a wet/dry and would not be optimal.

Honestly I wish I had set it up with only 2 chambers but I am not sure if that would have compromised the integrity because of the rimless design

Can anyone let me know what size the holes are in these tanks? I think I received the stock metric plumbing instead of the sch 40 plumbing, so if i want to add a ball valve and check valve do I have to the stock plumbing and bulkheads. Any thoughts?

Finally setting up my tank and trying to decide on plumbing / rocks / sand etc. I got the 90 gallon cube.

I'm down to the brs pukani dry rock or the reefcleaners dry rock. I've read I would have to cure the pukani though.

I got metric 1" bulkheads that SC sent with their standard non metric bulkheads. I dont like their quality so I ordered new ones from BRS as the metric bulkheads they sent were not all uniform giving me doubts to their reliability. Basically none of the plumbing sent with the tank will be used other then the return loc line as I can order in a conversion fitting to go back to SC stock size.

As for the rock I am personally going with reef cleaners in my tank for cost and the fact that he cleans it. I need to ping him this week or next to discus how I want to do the set up in my tank so he can try to find me a couple nice pieces of rock but regardless I figure a lot of mortar and such to get the 2 island look I want will be used...

So basically you're redoing all the plumbing except the 2 lock lines at the top? What kind of conversion fitting?

If I got new bulkheads to redo the plumbing below the tank would I have to replace the durso stanpipe that came with the tank and the return pvc above the tank as well?

Are you going durso or using the existing holes for herbie?

Yes if you got 1" bulkheads you would need to redo the plumbing below and inside the tank as thier fittings and pipe are metric.

BRS sells conversion fittings to go to metric sizes. It is just a bushing fitting.

If you are just stacking the rocks on top of each other than get mined dry rock, if you want to spend time shaping, cutting, and gluing to get a more interesting rock scape than the Pukani can not be beat.

Some like the reecleaners rock is supposed cured already. That said many still try to do so to get out some of the phosphates many leach as you can see from the marco rock threads.

So I have a question related to the SCA setup's sump. My particular setup is the 50g cube. Has anyone removed the baffle between the two square compartments? I was thinking of removing the baffle to free up some space. If I did so, it would make the sump a three compartment (basic sump with return, Refugium, and drain). Would it affect the water height at all where the baffle would be removed? I don't think so but I thought I'd ask anyway before I do something and it doesn't go as I planned. Thanks in advance

When I took my sump apart each baffle was about 1/8" shorter than the next, so if that is the case for you than the two chambers you are merging will take on the water height of the second in line. There should be no noticeable diffrence.

Thanks jayball. That's what I thought but wanted to see if anyone else has done so successfully after the fact. Just wondering about the water height being affected and if I'll be ruining the integrity of the sump itself as I'm sure it helps stabilize the foundation even if minutely. I'll wait sometime, hopefully other would see this and share their experiences. Thanks

Is this really how the return hose is supposed to connect to the bulkhead? I've had a real tough time getting this over the pvc. At least the pump end has a barb fitting. Not the only problem seems to be that I'll have to basically turn the pump in order to unscrew this, as to not twist the tubing. Any ideas how to set this up better, since there is no way to get metric fittings locally???

wow I just spent the last 2+ hrs reading from page 1...
loving these tanks. sent a cpl emails with Steve last night. so far CS is great.

davocean told me about SC...thanks bud. only problem is I want a 150 now. not gonna happen as I move to much. but god it tempting.

so now I cant decide between fixing my leaking bulkhead on my 40br that is a new build or getting a new system one that i really like and can stay with me where ever I go...

i am between keeping it simple with the AIO 24...
or trying to find the "right" size for me with 75 or 90. I generally like length in my tanks builds so I am thinking anything under 32" i might find to small.

another problem is I would have to upgrade my lighting. and I have an unused BML 36" 20K light i have yet to use. so what are you fine folks using on the 66 and 90s?

Across the floor my wife and I could move it (with suction cup handles). Up the stairs me and another guy managed it while on the crate but it was hairy. The suction cups make it so much easier, they are cheap from harbor freight so I
got 4 double cup handles.

It was a lot heavier going up those stairs than I imagined.

yeah I thought it would be heavy...trying to decided what tank i want. one reason I was setting up the 40br is I could move it my self.

I think you should be fine. I completely took apart the baffles, cut them and went with a different lay out. If you are just going to remove the one that separates the 1st compartment you should be fine.

Jump back to page 16 so you can get an idea of my sump.
