really nice Marc. Interesting how that one is encrusting the other. I actually place corals so that they touch adjacent rocks to get them to do that, but I wouldn't expect it over another coral.

OK Marc,

You've never steered me wrong and I have a question

Both my SEIOs crapped out during MACNA! But the good news is the wife approved the purchase of a TUNZE 6060 or 6080

Have you used the magnet holders and the standard mounting equipment? Which one is better?

One of my main questions is, can you mount the pump on the back glass and angle the pump 90 degrees? What is the maximum angle if not?

I MIGHT be able to mount it on the side, but not sure yet, I only have 1/2" clearance on the current tank, but the new 79 gallon I think will have 3/4" to 1" clearance on the outside.

Brian

I see you changed your username. Naughty reefer.

The Tunze Magnet works, but is rather large. You can point the pump at 45 degrees, at best, but no way near 90 degrees.

There is a magnet that you can buy on MarineDepot that holds Seios, Tunzes, MaxiJets, and they cost less plus they are smaller. Still you won't get 90 degrees on them.

Save up and get a VorTech.

Hey Marc. I just wanted to compliment you and Evan on the ********. I had a presentation due on Thursday morning, which meant staying up for two days straight and I listend to the podcast from episode 1 to like ep. 13 for 48 hours straight and it was still great! It definitely kept me awake. ********, better than redbull or coffee for sure.

Thanks for the input, unfortunately the VorTechs were not approved by the budget committee, but I'll check out that Marine Depot magnet.

If you are starting a list? Definately put me on it.

I think this is going to be a rather long list.

Tunzes aren't really cheaper than Vortechs after you get the magnets etc.

For the controllable ones yes, but the budget committee only allowed the non-controllable Tunze stream + magnet holder. At MD I can get the larger Tunze stream + magnet holder (non Tunze) for around $200. The Vortech is $350.

Unfortunately the budget committee feels that is too large of a difference.

bklynmet - Our budget committee doesn't have a veto option. I am a member of the budget committee and get one vote. The other member of the budget committee gets two votes

But why am I frowning? I get to purchase a TUNZE!

Brian

What I do is have a separate Bank Account for the Reef. I deposit x dollars every month, plus birthday money and any extra I win at poker (although lately that has been a negative number ) and that way there is no need for a budget committee.

Works for me and my wife.

While I was recovering from my stroke, my wife got herself a seperate bank account. To me that is not a "couple" thing to do...unless it's the guy.

You need money for this hobby? Not sure having two accounts with nothing in them would be any better than one account with nothing

Yeah the home equity in Central FL is way up there. I can't afford to buy my house anymore!

I have a seperate bank account that I use with ebay, paypal, netteller, etc. since I don't want them having any access to my "main" account. But I usually spend my tank money before bothering to deposit it!

OK, I am the fourth person to finish this thread all the way from the beginning in the last couple of weeks. Like the ones before me, awesome job on getting the tank done. (Well except the woodworking) Just had to put that one in there.

I was asked if we would put our house on our town's home tour in Dec so I decided to redo my 327 (7'x 30"x 31") and make it an SPS tank. I found your thread when I was trying to decide exactly what I was going to do. Your thread has been alot of help. Thanks!!

I took everything out of the tank and started from scratch. New 3-4" dsb and brand new live rock. I have 2 oceans motions with ampmaster 4000s for closed loops with 2 tunze 6100's streams with a wave box for additional flow. I have 4-400 watt mh lights in lumiarc IV reflectors. Redoing my 180 gallon sump and will have another ampmaster 4000 for my return pump.

The tank has cycled and just put in the clean up crew this past Friday. Can't wait until I get everything finished and can put corals in the tank. That is my question, how long should I wait until SPS can go in the tank? Some people say a couple of weeks and some people say don't even think about it until the tank is at least 6 months old. Marc what do you think?

I am going to be in DFW in 1 1/2 weeks. Would love to see your tank in person if possible and to discuss more of your thoughts about sps tanks.

Bart
