Hey
Hey everyone. My name is Michael and I have had freshwater tanks for ten years now. I have always wanted to do salt but just never got around to it. I am finally planning to set up a saltwater tank next month. I am in the "get as much info as i can mode now". I actually bought some equipment years ago to start salt tank, but then chickened out. I just dont want to mess up I guess. And the crazy price for live rock pushed me away. I hope to have a sucessful sw tank in the near future. Thanks everyone in advance for your knowledge!

Mad chemist plumber
Thats what this forum is turning me into....the ideas just don't stop!
I had a fifty five gal for about a year, bought a house so now I can get a real one, or two.....or three displays going. Starting out with a 75g display and using old 55g for sump in basement.... Eventually, but for now just gonna do water changes n top offs by hand. Love this forum keep up the good work, salties! |

Not necessarily new but decided to get off my but and final post things here. I have lurked around for years for various pieces of info but really got into posted.
My name is Mike and I live in the Detroit area. I am currently involved with the Marinelife Aquarium Society of Michigan (MASM) as Treasurer and serve a Council member for the Marine Breeding Initiative. (MBI) I currently have a 245G tank that I am going try a butterfly tank to see if it works. I also have about 500G devoted to breeding as well. I moved this summer and lost most of my fish so I am working towards getting things set back up again. |

Hi, I'm Jeremy and I'm just getting back into the hobby. I have two tanks that I plan to set back up, a 55g and a 10g. I plan on a FOWLR and hopefully I will be satisfied and stop there, lol. Its been 8 years since I moved and tore both tanks down. Wish me luck and thanks in advance for all the advice you will soon be giving me.

Hello everyone. I've had a saltwater setup for the last 1.5yrs. I've always had freshwater tanks but I wanted something different so I went with the saltwater. I am origionaly from Michigan but now I live on the outer banks due to my job in the USCG.
My tank is as follows: Hardware: 75g tank w/eshops overflow, 20g tall sump, rio return pump, coralife needle wheel protein skimmer, 2-150gph powerheads, 1-700gph circulation pump, 48" pc light bar with 2 50/50 65w power compact bulbs (new 716w fixture on order). livestock: 2 maroon clownfish (only 6-7mo old, not sure if goldstripe or not), coral beauty angel, sailfin tang, blue hippo tang, lawnmower blenny, red spotted sandperch, cleaner clam, emerald crab, asst red and blue leg crabs, cleaner shrimp, asst snails, leathers, purple mushrooms, polyps, birdsnest, green bubble tip anemone, asst zoos. I am done adding fish and I plan on adding just coral from now on. I am not sure what the gallon per fish ratio is and I dont want to overload with fish. With corals I plan on sticking with the soft corals with the exception of birdsnet. I'm just not a big fan of the hard corals. I will have some pics up later on this week. I thought having the fw with the plants was a good time but watching the corals grow and watching how a sw tank grows gives me more enjoment than my freshwater ever did. I look forward to talking to you in the future. Mike |

New to reef central
Hi my name is Marie. I've been in the hobby since 2005 and I've had everything from a 7 gallon nano reef to a to what I now call a huge mess.
I have a two car garage I've turned into a lab. Two 50 gallon Rubbermaid stock tanks I use as frag tanks lit by 2 250 watt MH. They drain into a 100 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank with a RDSB and a Reefflo Dart. Then I have a 55 gallon rr aquarium draining into another 100 gallon RMST with another RDSB, which is where I am keeping my non reef safe friends. This tank is connected to another 100 gallon RMST right next to it, where i keep one large angel. This tank is connected to large skimmer. It doesn't stop there the 7 gallon nano is still up and running strong. It houses 2 Perculas and an anemone, and I have a 29 gallon nano reef with a Clown Tang and some corals. PLEASE HELP! I have had a brand new Oceanic Ultimate 140 since 2008. For this setup I also have a large ProClear Refugium with a ProClear 600 Impact Skimmer, a Mag 1800, a Mag 1200, and a Coralife Duel 250 MH lighting system. All brand new still in the box. I also have another empty 125 gallon aquarium with an exterior overflow system. I guess what I need is an opinion on how to turn this mess into a nice neat system. I would like the display in the house but I only have enough room for the refugium and skimmer underneath the tank. In the garage though I don't have to use the ProClear refugium, which I consider small. I can use one of the 100 gallon RMST, connect the frag tanks, more water ect. I would just empty the 7 and 29gallon nano cubes into the 140. I'm thinking of using the 55 as a QT and the 125 and the other 100 gallon RMST for my non reef safe inhabitants. Please feel free to comment and give opinions. Would love a diagram if possible. I've also been readind alot that a good T5 system is just as good or even better than a 250 MH system. Any thoughts? Thanks for your time. |

Hi my name is Adam. I have been out of SW for about 15 years and for my 40th birthday the wife said I could set up a new tank.
I found a great deal on CL for a 14g Biocube and started on my new adventure. We also have an 8mo son that just loves to watch the fish whenever we go places with tanks! I have the tank set up with rock and it is cycling now, should be done by the end of the week. Looking to keep 2-3 small fish and some of the easier corals at first. I have found some great info here and thought it was time to say HI |

Hello everyone my name is Chris. First off let me give my appreciation for the wealth of knowledge on this site, it's just fantastic. I've been keeping large freshwater systems for years now and about four months ago I was compelled to set up a reef so did a complete overhaul on a 240G acrylic I have 8x2x2 and it has been up and running for a little over two months now. I'll start a thread and posts pictures here in the near future.
Thanks again |

Hello everyone. My Name is Kevin and I'm begining the 4 month project of starting my first reef setup.
I'll start a new thread about the setup and progress once something significant comes along but here's the plan. 60g Cube for the main tank, 25g display refugium next to it. 31g capacity sump below it with a skimmer. Homemade stand, to be built, to support and encase it all. RO/DI & 35G resiviour unit in the basement with plumbing running straight up to the sump for easy and effecient water changes. Working with a local salt water specialty store to coordiate everything, purchase all of the parts and aid in the assembly. The more I look around here the more Ideas i keep getting, however I only have so much room so I can only do so much. Best of luck to everyone else starting out and I'll see you in the threads. |
