ID is 1/4". Hmm, with my ps160 i had no problems with to much flow with the venturi and mods i made. I had one layer of mesh, the center tube was gone and the pump had the 1/4" venturi tube in a 1/2" male pvc fitting. It pulled 15scfh which was 3-5x's the stock venturi.

I would like to discuss another possible mod for the PS160. It seems that the top of the skimmer neck is very close to the lid of the collection cup. I wonder if the foam would flow into the cup better if the riser were trimmed down maybe 1/8" allowing for a bit more space between the riser and the lid.

thoughts?

Are you talking about a much more smoother transition into the collection cup? That might work, but dont you think it'd be more of a pain type of modification?

Also you got pics of your venturi with 5 tubes?

Jefferzbooboo, what one of these are you talking about? The ps75? I don't think the MJ would do much more than the NW pump on it now.

If your going to add a new pump to it i'd go with a QO1200 for around 20bux. It will pull much more air then the mj1200 or ex250

Luke,

On the PS160, do you think the EX550 pump from aquatraders would make any difference vs the stock pump? I know the stock pump is supposedly 500gph or something... (rating, smurting... I know)

Any thoughts?

No, i don't think it would make a difference. I tried a genx2400 NW on it and it was to much no matter what i did. The 500gph pump works well modded. You can get 15scfh out of it, which is 3-5x's more han stock.

Looks like you need more air! Have you removed the worthless extra tube inside of this skimmer? Also you can redo the pump venturi by taking a 1/2" male threaded pvc adapter and drill a 1/4" hose adapter right where the threads meet the pvc adapter, then take a very small piece of 1/2" pvc and insert it into the pvc side and put it right after the venturi air injector. You'll pull 15scfh and that will milk that skimmer out and give it all it can. Oh yea, and add a layer or two of mesh ; ) THen you have a skimmer that can handle a 55g tank.

You want to take a very small piece of 1/2" pvc and slide it right to the air venturi then your done.

Hope that helps

I was thinking either a Maxi-Jet 600 or 1200. Do I need to leave the cap on the collection cup or can I leave it off (I seem to have lost mine in my move). I'm using a PS75.

I was also wondering if anyone else's skimmer quit skimming during feeding? I have the PS75 and use it HOB stock. I've used it HOB for over 6 months and have never had it overflow, like some have said.

I've never had a skimmer not stop at feeding time. I don't think anyone on this thread has said the ps75 has overflown either, only the ps160. It would be better to leave the lid on, but i guess its not a necessity.

I sold it for 45bux. I solely bought it to see what it could do. It was pulling around a cup a day of dark green skimmate off my 125g buuuut it was in my fuge so it wasn't getting but 1/5 the raw water it should. I'm guessing it should do a cup or more modded on a heavy bioload on a 55g or more.

I made a new venturi today for the stock pump that comes with a ps - 75 skimmer dyi on end. It is easy all the parts came from a extra maxi-jet stuff works much better also. This was not my idea for the venturi read about it on another thread though i would try it was so happy with the improvement i though i should post it here for ps-75 users

stock venturi i got it to work but never great

[

take it apart

all the parts you need to make the venturi from maxi-jet one of the rubber adpters the small strainer to keep stuff out

the assembled unit

the put air line in hole stick on end of pump
