I'm painting the bottom of the 33 white so it will show detritus well. All that means is I will have to clean it more often. I used a cheapy gloss Plasti*Kote brand from Walmart. I added two coats with too little time in between and it streaked a little, although you can't tell in this pic because there is too little light in the attic. Tomorrow I'll add the rest of the paint in the bottle which is barely enough to cover the bottom of the paint jar. Today's coat will have all night to dry, that better be enough. I'm doing the same scheme of things for the back panel of this tank, the paint will be black though.

No, bare bottom is ok and that's what I'll use for awhile. The problem with eels is that they're very messy eaters and poopers so they need to be cleaned up after, especially in a small tank like mine. I'm planning to siphon my eels mess out of the tank so a fine sandy bottom will get sucked up by the siphon. That means I will have to use a coarse substrate in my display tank.

Morays absolutely need a cave to live. A crevice in a stack of liverock is best. They need a place to feel safe in when they're not hunting for food at night. They like to stick their head out of caves in daylight occasionally to see what's going on and it looks real cool.

Hey unbreakable, are you still researching leds? Do you have a link to that thread?

I will have to upgrade my lighting to make my Nano cube a frag tank and I'm researching too. It's got to be bright enough to grow sps and I think the 18 watts of pc lighting I have in there now won't do the trick.

Well I'm stuck with the paint job now. I used up all the white plasti-kote on the bottom panel and it could really use another coat. I don't want to go over the top of this paint with another brand because it could be come spotty. So the problem is neither of the two hardware stores in this town carry plasti-kote. The nearest place to get it is at Walmart in Kalispell which is almost 100 miles from here. (I guess you could say we live in the sticks.) I could probably get by with the paint job on the bottom as is because I don't want to wait two week until I go to Kalispell and I'm trying to get this show on the road.

I know you probably don't want to hear it, but the back panel has a similar paint problem with a major deviation. That deviation being I'm waiting for the black silicone rubber cement ordered from Aquatic Eco to glue on my closed loop's anemone saver. I won't know exactly where to paint until the CL's inlet is glued in. Aside from that, I have only one small jar of black Plasti-kote for the back panel which won't be enough so I might want to return this can of Krylon Fusion white for a black one. Ok, should I get flat or gloss?

woops, i saw what you meant in your post

nanocustoms should have those LED you can buy to install in the canopy, if not, you can go to www.fishneedit.com and purchase the 150w metal halide but your tank will get hot probably?

I'm not sure if razors can be used on acrylic. In fact, I'm pretty sure they can't. I would ask around on the boards instead of using the razor on a small test area of the tank.

Not with this tank. That's an IceProbe chiller bulkheaded though the glass.

Here's an email conversation between me and a LFS that is 2-1/2 hours away from my house:
Quote:
Me:In a previous email you told me you have established pairs of Pygme Angels for sale. Small ones for 89.99 and big ones for 99.99. What are the ages and sizes of these?
Quote:
LFS:Males are about 2+" with the female slightly behind... 1.75 or so. $99.99 There is no way of knowing the age on these wild caught fish, but they have been here, paired up for nearly a year.
Quote:
Me:And do you have any in stock?
Quote:
LFS:I believe we have two pairs.
Quote:
Me:What company do you ship with and what would be the shipping to zip wxyz?
Quote:
LFS:FedEx. If you're ordering the one pair of angels, it should be AROUND $35.
Quote:
Me:What kind of temperatures are too cold to ship?
Quote:
LFS:We don't ship when it drops below 20 degrees.
Quote:
Me:I assume this is overnight shipping and what is your shipping schedule?
Quote:
LFS:We ship Monday through Friday.
Thanks for supporting Mariculture!
Please call, fax or e-mail if you have any questions, or if there is anything else I can do to be of service.

I will quarantine wet liverock because I'm set up for it, the liverock can have parasites, I spent a lot of money to be able to quarantine, and it's not a hassle.

I only have four pieces of wet rock now in a bucket with water and I might get dry live rock from the sources that you mentioned, unbreakable, and yes I wouldn't need to quarantine that dry stuff.

I'm going to do this. You have me figured out unbreakable.

I will set-up my auxiliary sump with Hang-on-back overflow. (All this temporary until I have some mini-cycles during quarantine.) There are oils and films on the tank that are from the manufacturing process that need to be skimmed out and then everything must be coated with a very thin layer of bacteria. This bacteria coating that doesn't include live rock bacteria is very important but I'm at a loss of words as to why right now.

The fish will be in quarantine during this first phase and I'm nervous about it. I've always just acclimated then dumped without quarantine. I'm afraid the pair will fight in a 6 gallon tank in a period that should last 4 weeks.

A lot of livestock vendors quarantine and if these guys do I just might put them in the QT long enough to eat the brand of fish food I have and get used to the water I use as opposed to the water at the LFS and before that Natural Sea Water (NSW).

I've read all pygme/dwarf angels have a 50/50 chance as being coral eaters.

I don't think they eat coral. They just pick on them, also seemingly bare spots on live rock, and micro algae on the glass/acrylic. I'm willing to take the chance. I've had a Coral Beauty and a Bicolor angel in the past and I just LOVED them.

I just need to touch up on the edges right next to the frames with brush-on paint.

I'll be ordering my fish this week and right now I'm setting up my QT.

I'm planning on feeding them the same time everyday in the QT. That way when I put them in the 33, they might look for food at that time and find it instead of totally missing the boat when I feed them. (The food and fish will make a connection instead of the food getting lost on the bottom or sucked into something.)
