Makes sense.
No, like a lot of things with this release it doesn't if you think it though. They can restrict membership to owners while still allowing open viewing. Closing the viewing is the opposite of 'open and transparent' that they are professing to be.

I was hoping to get more information before the special price ends so seeing the forum being available only for current owners is disappointing.

THIS! That is my point in regards to hindering sales.

Then buy it and get into the forum.

Or don't and don't be.

It is YOUR choice.

I know I as an owner certainly would not want to have to wade through all of the posts and comments complaining that the size of the display module is too big, etc., etc., etc.

I can certainly see why it is only for owners.

Salty,

I understand your enthusiasm but the "GTFO attitude if you don't like it" is a bit to much.

Like Doc said, Vertex wanted to be transparent and mentioned this numerous times, they could have done exactly what he said and allow viewing for everyone but registration for only members. This way you would not have to wade through all of the useless posts and comments that people like us have been making.

The lack of transparency and lack of information from Vertex is exactly why I cancelled my preorder. I didn't truly know what I was getting due to the limited information they released. This only solidifies my decision. If they left their forum open I would be more inclined to evaluate purchasing their product based on user experiences. Just as I chose to hold off adopting the new apex based on the feedback on the neptune forums.

Well after a day and a half working the Vertex system may work in the future but it sure does not now. I have used contollers but this system is in beta and not ready for the market yet.

Not mine to worry about, that George's.

What does not work? Well the temp reading works as does the PH.

Yep, i love that its exclusive. Makes me feel special and also gives me the comfort I am going to get exclusive support.

A closed forum means Vertex support team will deal with real product owners, not fakers. Thus, real product owners will get more attention from Vertex support and ultimately better support.

Dude you have been bashing Cerebra in almost every post you make. Honestly, I don't even believe you (or your "friend") owns one. BUT if you do AND you hate it that much, I will buy it off you, what do you think? Use that money to buy an Apex

Not trying to brash it, just trying to use it.

This.

I realize many of my posts have been negative, but I am honestly not trying to continually bash Vertex of be an Apex fanboy. On the contrary, I don't own an Apex, so I have no loyalty to them, and I really would like to see a well-designed, easy to use controller on the market.

The problem is there are several potential and real shortcomings with the Vertex. There is a lack of actual knowledge about the controller and the fact that Vertex itself makes statements that are at times semicontradictory or don't make sense when thought through doesn't help. Keeping the Cerebra user forum un-viewable to outside viewers only makes it worse.

Then I see people completely dismiss any criticism or questions about the controller (even before it has been released,) or label people asking questions as 'Apex Fanboys,' or 'Vertex Bashers,' all while ignoring the points raised. Ironically, they end up looking exactly like the 'Fanboys' they are blowing off, making it difficult to trust their opinions, even should they get some hands on experience.

Unfortunately, this thread has turned into an 'us against them' discussion. You either love the Cerebra for the totally awesome, groundbreaking, best-on-the market controller that it clearly is, or you are a Hater that is trying to keep Vertex out of the market and Neptune on top. I keep waiting for actual facts and answers, but they have been in woefully short supply. Hopefully that will change.

This thread is proof-positive that Vertex making the forum for owners only was the right choice.

Some guy says his "friend" has it and that it doesn't work and that it is not ready for the market...

But then you ask him what didn't work - and he replies but doesn't say.

Saying that the temp probe and the PH probe work...

I for one think their forum should be viewable so that perspective customers could read up and see what's really going on. Make it read only but making it not viewable isn't a great choice unless there are things to hide. I own one. I registered over 24 hours ago & still can't view the forum despite going through their authentication process. Does that make me happy when I bough this thing & can't even read the damn forum let alone ask a question there?? You can be the judge.

Did you buy one?

I bet you are. Good news is that several Dreamboxes are in route to Florida now and will be there in the next couple weeks.

Wait a minute, I said that it is not ready because it is in beta. Right now it is hard to use. I have no horse in this show and believe in competition.

Issues we had were using an iPad because mounting the display is a pain the ***.
Lack of support, might be because it is the weekend.
The forum sucks.

slief,

you have a great reputation here from what I understand. any updates from you are really appreciated when it comes to this controller. I am preparing to buy one soon. Thank you for your help in my post about a skimmer. Sure makes me want to go with bubble king when I see you posting at RC and doing a great job in your sub forum.

I will read up more on the VNC app. I do have an Android tablet so I will load VNC Viewer on that and see if it's any better. I expect a VNC viewer on the PC will work better and will test that later this weekend.
this is what I feared...vnc isn't really a proper remote interface for something like this, especially when you're vncing into a thing that's expecting an android touch interface...they really should have did something web-based, like a web-version of the android interface...or maybe they should have skipped an android interface all together and just did it web from the start, and their interface would just have to access that, similar to people using tablets for apex? It would have been much more device-agnostic that way...

Nothing saying they won't eventually do this via their promised cloud platform, but i'm just surprised they didn't do it this way from the start...it is beta afterall I guess....

Personally I don't think this thread had anything to do with Vertex making the forum private. A big complaint in this thread is that the product is beta. It is common with beta products to have hidden from the public discussion. If you really want to know what is going on, join the beta launch. If not, just wait for the non beta version. If the forum is not open at that point, then you will just have to rely on the opinions of the users. It is what it is. In the end, it's your choice.
