ONLY if you have a bonded pair will that work. Usually you can find a pair if you shop around at LFS. Look for ones that are hanging together. You may get lucky but it is hit or miss.

I'm researching and getting ready to set up a 10gal for my son's room w/10-15lb live rock, probably an oversized power filter for flow and chemical filtration. Water changes will be 10-15% weekly.

Here's what I'm thinking . . .
small percula clown that will go into my 56 when too big
high fin goby (Stonogobiops nematodes) w/ pistol shrimp
clown goby

A bit much but probably ok.
Thanks much!

Hello, just wanted to check the inch per gallon rule with you,

Quick review of my setup
400gallon DT (96" x 34" x 28")
100g sump + 100g Fuge
600g total system volume

200 pounds of LR
200 pounds of LS

Actual fish in DT
2 Clarkii Clown fish
7 Green Chromis
1 Multicolor Dwarf Angel
1 Diamond Goby

Actual fish in the QT:
1 Red Stripe Dwarf Angel
1 Flame Dwarf Angel
1 Starry Blenny
1 Two Barred Rabbitfish
1 Triggerfish Blue Throat
6 Tiger Queen Anthias

All of the QT fish are separated into six QT tanks.

I have summed up all the Max size of all fish (Reference LiveAquaria) and I have a total of 104.5" of fish, based on a 5 gallon per inch rule I'm at 130% of it, should I be safe with actual amount of fish, or can I push it a little more?

Actual fish size totals around 50 inches but I prefer considering the max size of the fish for future safety.

My Filtration consists of Skimmer SRO-XP5000 which is rated up to 700G, Fuge with macro algae, 2 reactors with Bio Pellets, Reactor running carbon, Filter socks and soon a 150w Emperor UV.

If you need more info for reference let me know.

Thanks for your help.

Actual fish in DT
2 Clarkii Clown fish
7 Green Chromis You may be lucky in that sized tank but often these will winnow down to one or two.
1 Multicolor Dwarf Angel Gorgeous but only 50/50 reef safe
1 Diamond Goby

Actual fish in the QT:
1 Red Stripe Dwarf Angel
1 Flame Dwarf Angel
1 Starry Blenny
1 Two Barred Rabbitfish
1 Triggerfish Blue Throat
6 Tiger Queen Anthias Difficult. Best results for this fish would be for continuous feeding of various plankton

All of the QT fish are separated into six QT tanks.

Inches per gallon in salt water does not hold; that is a fresh water "rule". However I think you will be fine with your stocking list. BUT add gradually so as not to exceed your biocapacity

Looks good to me.

75-Gallon tank
10-Gallon sump
200 pounds live rock
50 pounds live sand

I just emptied my tank of all livestock (save for a few hermits and snails) and I was looking at this list of new candidates:

Ocellaris Clownfish
Zebra Barred Dartfish
Firefish
Yellowhead Jawfish
Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp
Dusky Yellow Streak Blenny
Banded Coral Shrimp
Peppermint Shrimp
Blue Tuxedo Urchin
Dwarf Feather Duster
Longspine Urchin
Tiger-Tail Sea Cucumber
Bubble-Tip Anenome

Ocellaris Clownfish
Zebra Barred Dartfish May be incompatible with firefish; however you can have a small group of these
Firefish
Yellowhead Jawfish
Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp
Dusky Yellow Streak Blenny
Banded Coral Shrimp They can take fish, I recommend against
Peppermint Shrimp
Blue Tuxedo Urchin Can be disruptive to rock and coral structure
Dwarf Feather Duster
Longspine Urchin
Tiger-Tail Sea Cucumber
Bubble-Tip Anenome
The anemone needs a mature tank

Hey Steve,

Just wanted to get your opinion on my stock list:

2 x Amphiprion percula (Onyx Clownfish) +
2 x Stonogobiops dracula (Dracula Goby) +
2 x Nemateleotris helfrichi (Helfrichi Firefish) +
1 x Opistognathus aurifrons (Pearly Jawfish) -
1 x Pterapogon kauderni (Kaudern's Cardinal) -
1 x Ecsenius midas (Midas Blenny) -
3 x Gramma loreto (Royal Gramma Basslet) +
1 x Synchiropus splendidus (Green Mandarin) +
1 x Cirrhilabrus solorensis (Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse) +
1 x Ctenochaetus strigosus (Yellow Eye Kole Tang) +
1 x Naso elegans (Blonde Naso Tang) *
1 x Acanthurus olivaceous*(Orange Shoulder Tang) -
1 x Paracanthurus hepatus*(Yellow Belly Blue Tang) *
1 x Zebrasoma flaviscens (Yellow Tang) +
1 x Xanthichthys auromarginatus (Blue Jaw Triggerfish) +
1 x Acanthurus achilles (Achilles Tang) +
1 x Acanthurus leucosternon*(Powder Blue Tang) +

Tank Info: 180g + 40B Sump + 40B Refugium
Skimmer: SRO3000int
Lights: DIY Cree XPG/E LED
Goal: Colorful SPS/LPS Reef with emphasis on variety of fish

So I know that this is an extremely heavy bioload and that all these fish cannot go into my tank a prosper. Anything denoted with an asterisk(*) will obviously not fit in my tank and will not go in the 180. The reason they are on the list is because I tried to put the list in the best stocking order and are a part of my bigger plan which is years down the road.

Anything denoted with a + is what I would like to put in my 180g tank. I am completely open to changes in quantity as well as completely dropping some of these fish.

Anything denoted with a - is additional fish I would like to keep and willing to do so if you approve for the 180 but probably will have to wait for my 600+. This is my longterm goal for when I finally get settled down in 5-10 years.

Thanks for all your help.

It is very difficult to evaluate the bioload of the 180 with that number of fish. I personally would reduce the number of larger active fish for the 180. My concerns would be around the trigger (although I like that fish). It would be easier to evaluate if you gave me a base stock for the 180 then a desired additional stock if room, and finally the 600 stock plan. Of course, maybe it is just that I am tired.

Steve,

I currently don't have any fish in my tank but this is what I would like in the 180:
2 x Amphiprion Percula (Onyx Clownfish)
2 x Stonogobiops dracula (Dracula Goby)
2 x Nemateleotris helfrichi (Helfrichi Firefish)
3 x Gramma loreto (Royal Gramma Basslet)
1 x Synchiropus splendidus (Green Mandarin) Yes
1 x Cirrhilabrus solorensis (Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse)
1 x Ctenochaetus strigosus (Yellow Eye Kole Tang)
1 x Zebrasoma flaviscens (Yellow Tang)
1 x Xanthichthys auromarginatus (Blue Jaw Triggerfish)
1 x Acanthurus achilles (Achilles Tang)

Also since the Wrasse can be ornery, especially toward the firefish, can you recommend a different wrasse that may be less ornery?

This is what I would like to put in the 600 and don't need to worry about right now, just compatibility conflicts against the 180 stock list that way I can decide if I want to hold off on that particular fish.
1 Acanthurus leucosternon*(Powder Blue Tang)
1 Opistognathus aurifrons (Pearly Jawfish)
1 Pterapogon kauderni (Kaudern's Cardinal)
1 Ecsenius midas (Midas Blenny)
1 Naso elegans (Blonde Naso Tang)
1 Acanthurus olivaceous*(Orange Shoulder Tang)
1 Paracanthurus hepatus*(Yellow Belly Blue Tang)

Thanks for the super fast response.
Sorry to hear your tired.

I have yet to buy anything but i have an idea of what i want to get. Any input on what im getting would be awesome. I have been debating on making a saltwater tank for years, and ive finally come to the conclusion that i should just go ahead and do it.

Currently i have a 55g tank that is empty, so that will be my tank.
SeaClone Protein Skimmer SCPS 100 (up to 100 gallons)
60lbs live sand
90lbs live rock
Eshopps Wet-Dry Filters WD-100CS
Maxi-Jet Submersible Utility Pumps Model 1800
x2 Hydor Koralia Evolution Pumps Evolution 750 (powerhead)
x2 LED Double Bright Lighting System 18-24" (tank is split into 2 sections and this should cover both sections.
ProTherm Heater 100W

I really just want to have a tank with some clown fish and some good corals to go along with them. Im sure i will get other fish, but i really dont know what would be good.

1 x Cirrhilabrus solorensis (Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse) The problem is that firefish are easily intimidated by fairy and flasher wrasses so recommending one that will not intimidate is difficult. I would say look at a leopard wrasse but that is an issue eventually with a mandarin so it must be introduced after any mandarin
1 x Ctenochaetus strigosus (Yellow Eye Kole Tang)
1 x Zebrasoma flaviscens (Yellow Tang)
1 x Xanthichthys auromarginatus (Blue Jaw Triggerfish)
1 x Acanthurus achilles (Achilles Tang)

Four tang sized (or larger) fish in a 180 would seem very difficult and too busy for me. Can you wait on the trigger until the 600? Also thanks for the rearrangement, much easier to comprehend.

Also since the Wrasse can be ornery, especially toward the firefish, can you recommend a different wrasse that may be less ornery?

A pair of clowns and eventually, given proper lights, and anemone would be great. Your tank size, along with the aggression of mature clowns will somewhat limit your fish selection. I don't normally evaluate equipment choices in this thread.

Steve,

Thank you so much. Yes I can hold off on the trigger, and I also understand about the special care fish that you pointed out in my first post. I don't plan on putting all these fish in my tank in fast order as I am still new to the hobby but I am absolutely in love with reef tanks.

Dave

Likewise. However I favor small fish with interesting relationships, invertebrates, and corals. A truly addicting hobby. You are most welcome. Check back if you have additional questions.

(updated from post ~ 4791 in this thread)
29 g biocube
25 lbs live rock
mediabasket with chemipure elite and purigen (plan on running refugium with chaeto)
various LPS and soft corals (maybe LPS in the distant future)
12 snails
1 emerald crab
1 peppermint shrimp
1 yellowtail damsel
1 O. clown

I'm now thinking about my third and fourth fish, and figure that the 4th will probably depend on the third.

potential #3 fish (in order of preference):
- tailspot blenny
- bluespotted jawfish or yellowhead jawfish
- clown goby (green or yellow)
- Yellowwatchman goby

and if it's not too much trouble... maybe a suggestion of a 4th fish for each of these #3 fish (I'd like to have a plans for each option). I'm a bit enamored by the various flasher wrasses (i.e. mccoskers)

The fourth will be added much later as I want to ensure the first three will prove I'm capable at doing this.

Hoping you can let me know if the following fish will be compatible. I currently have a 75g display with a 30g sump. The tank has been running for around 7 months. It's a mixed reef with SPS/LPS/Zoas/Softies. I run an ASM G3 skimmer which is more than enough for a good amount of livestock in this tank.

My current stocking is:
2 occy clowns
1 scopas tang
3 blue/green chromis
1 tiger tail cucumber
2 peppermint shrimp
and a clean up crew

I'm planning on placing an order to LA in the future and thinking about adding:
1 Flame Angel
1 Algea Blenny
1 Clown Goby
1 Six Line Wrasse

Thanks in advance for your help

How about a Blue Headed Fairy Wrasse instead?

Thanks in advance for your help

My current stocking is:
2 occy clowns
1 scopas tang
3 blue/green chromis will likely reduce to one
1 tiger tail cucumber
2 peppermint shrimp
and a clean up crew

I'm planning on placing an order to LA in the future and thinking about adding:
1 Flame Angel
1 Algea Blenny
1 Clown Goby

It is unclear what your question is? I answered one post already with comments

Steve,

I already have the crab and yellowtail damsel. The second list of fish is a list where I'll pick one out of there.

Out of that second list (which is in order of preference)... any comments about compatibility of each in a 29g biocube with a YT damsel and o.clown?

and any recommendations for a 4th fish based on the 3rd fish choice?

Flasher wrasse requires a larger tank. Otherwise fine.
