Just starting in the hobby.
Got this tank for about a month and a half, put some live rock in it, and got this that starting growing on it... well not really growing, it just appeared two weeks ago, and has not really grown that I can see... Might have been there when I put the rock in and I didn't notice it... If anyone could help me identify it, I have searched alot, and don't find anything. I tought Aiptasia, but it dosen't really match the pics I found online... It's brownish and small, the big one is about 1/2 inch wide and mayby 1/4 tall. Thanks |

Unknown hitchhiker
Can anyone possibly help and tell me what this is. It's nocturnal because during the day you would never of noticed it as its flat against the rock then at night when all the lights are off it comes out about 20mm from the rock. It has a pale colour disc and brown spikey tentacles that look a bit like spider legs.. Not sure if it's something I need to get out of my tank or not. I've ruled out Aiptasia due to its nocturnal behaviour.

Thanks to both of you. No retraction when I touch it I even saw one of my hermit crab walking on it. What made me hesitate abour the hair algea is that when I touch it, it's one mass, when I move it, it moves as a whole... I tought algea would be more... seperate strands...? |

Here's a better image of my mystery critter. I've googled everything I can think of but I still have no idea what this is.

definitely a nudibranch of some sorts not sure of the species though.. usually they will resemble the coral or organism of which they eat.. not all are bad but most are.. maybe someone more experienced will chime in though

I'm not sure about the first picture, but the second one is of a Hydroid. These things usually just run their course given time so there really nothing to worry about IME.

Spoondude, I think the first two are opisthobranch snails, probably haminoeids. They are most likely algae grazers.

Not critters, but need help id'ing. What are these white things? They are flat. I've seen them from time to time on my back wall, on my glass, but right now there are tons of them on my rocks. I thought they were snail eggs of some kind. Am I right? If so, what kind? I have turbos, nerites, trochus, ceriths, dwarf ceriths, nessarius.

Jcook, that's an arminid nudibranch. They feed on soft corals, and that particular one seems to be a common hitchhiker on clove polyps.
Bat21, your white dots are nerite eggs Cheers, Don |

Got a new coral yesterday, a setosa montipora. Acclimated and dipped as usual and after I attached it to a rock I saw this guy. I tried the Lionfish Hitchhiker page but nothing looked quite like it. Should I pull the whole frag out and toss it?
