That looks like the same needle wheel I just purchased from another supplier. Works perfect. My old skimmer works like new again. HTH.

After 12 months, the friction has sheared the ceramic shaft and basically chewed up the magnet also. I also found broken ceramic washer pieces in the bottom of te skimmer chamber. Need to order new entire impellar assemblies now |

So I haven't had a tank for around 3 years now and I am about to get into it again A few things have changed lie LED lighting. This is my question. I went through a bunch of skimmers and then loved the H & S A150. I am going with a very large system this time, right around 500 gallons total. Are H & S still the best? Seems like there are allot of cone designs now and skimmers with pumps that pull allot of air. I toyed with some as they were just becoming popular and wasn't happy at all. But now are they better? Did the technology surpass the Deltec and H & S simple recirculating skimmer technology or just a bunch of hype for newb's?
Thanks, Adam

Skimmers have come along way in the last 3 years. Specially they have gotten cheaper, the Chinese are making better ones cheaper and they have better warranties and customer service better than the Germans think SRO skimmers I would look at the SRO 5000 model. I do have a H&S 90-1000, good luck getting parts you have to go to Germany to get them, bummer I am fan of Eric and Brian. ATB skimmers are a real deal great CS and parts are readily available and they are made in Austria. Victor does their CS and is available on his cell of e-mail.

Has anyone put a silencer on the end of their air line? Does it affect performance? I've got an A200-1260.

The cones can be an improvement, but it is very slight and there are plenty of crappy cones out there. Most of the skimmers today are pretty much cones anyways since the necks are so tapered. Having spent a lot of cash on the high end skimmers, I would never waste my money on them again, ones like Deltec, BK etc. The same performance and better warranty and support can be had from the more sanely priced skimmers.

I'm considering an h&s 90 skimmer locally but the aquabee pump does not work
Can I pick up a replacement aquabee 1000 at Reef Concepts in Canada? It looks like they sell the needlewheel aquabee for $90 but just wanted to check that it is the correct replacement for this skimmer. I was also considering an swc or bubble magus nac 3.5+ or reef octopus but am Leary of the pumps they use Skimmer would be used on a 20 gallon system Don't know if the cone and bubble plate technology will be a considerable improvement. Looks like it will only be marginal For those who have owned an h&s 90 I welcome your input Thanks in advance |

I have a 90-1000 skimmer on a 33 gallon tank, the problem with small tanks it is hard to get them to skim. The H&S would definitely keep up. Getting pumps is a real pain Try e-mailing H&S and see what they have to say since their is no support here in the US. I always thought about putting a Tunze 9410 skimmer pump on it if I needed too but I have not tried it yet Wish I could borrow one for a week I do have two 9420 skimmer pumps.

I'm needing to replace impellers on my H&S A250 (eheim 1260 needlewheels), and can't find anyone selling H&S parts. It looks like ReefDynamics (euroreef) sells one for the eheim, as does Bubble Magus. Has anyone used either and can comment on performance?
Or know of another source? thanks, Mike

I replaced both needlewheel impellars on my A250 with the Euroreef branded impellars and they are performing almost better then the original needlewheels before they were damaged.
I have not taken the pump apart yet to see if there is the same type of wear on the washers as there was with the H&S needlewheels, it's been about 3 months now. |

No problem Mike.
You would think that at $300 ($149 a pop), that there would be free shipping, try nada! |

Thanks Moondog, I just checked, and they have the eheims with needlewheel for 290. That's a good price for the total skimmer pump, but I just need the impeller. BTW, Brian from Fins Reef just e-mailed me back that he now suggests we get the reef dynamics impeller due to the value of the Euro making the H&S too expensive. He says the reef dynamic impellers appear to be doing well in the H&S. That is great customer service, to refer us to a competitor to save us some money,
Mike

It's good that you got to speak with Brian I have met him several times, bummer that the economy has had such a negative impact on this hobby.
