I like the method that is explained on liveaquaria.com. They do a real good job at instructing a very precise and thorough plan that uses a bucket instead of a specimen container.

Here's two things I got in the mail today. Black silicone that I couldn't find in the hardware stores in this town. They had it in the 10 oz. tubes that are for caulking guns, but I researched here on RC and found out that that brand has toxins in it. I settled for this 2 oz. tube of reef-safe stuff from aquaticeco.com. The two 1 inch uniseals and the 1/2 inch uniseal are from saltycritter.com.

Well I got a call from Inland Aquatics today and they gave me some bad news. Their heating packs that were left over from last winter went bad over the summer. So they can't ship my fishes until they get a new supply of heating packs which might take until Thurs. or Friday. They told me that they could have my fishes arrive on Saturday but that will require extra $ because that's what FedEx charges.

Or.....they could ship out on Monday. I immediately asked for a discount on Saturday shipping since they inconvenienced me and this guy Todd said he would talk to Morgan, the boss. Then Todd said something about someone emailing me and I said I will follow up with a phone call.

I guess the answer is I don't know. My test kits are over two years old. I have a ammonia detector thingy with a suction cup. The spot in the middle changes color, matching the scale accordingly to indicate ammonia level. I can't rely on my liquid test kits anymore. I think I'll get some dip-n-read strips for nitrite and nitrate.

The QT is set-up except for the auto top-off and the light. For circulation I'm using the back chamber's return and supplementing it with a Nano Koralia. I'm thinking about swapping it with a Maxi-Jet 600. That will give me on/off wavemaking with night mode.

Well I took zachtos's advice and instead of buying a maxi-jet 600 (I have 4 maxi 1200s), I modded a 1200's impeller. After I clipped off an impeller blade I would test the flow strength and I did this for each of 4 out of 5 blades. With one blade left I felt the flow was about right. Now I plugged in the powerhead into my Reef Keeper controller. With the RK I have much more options than the Koralia. I have the maxi-jet set to turn off/on every 40 seconds and it turns off for feed and night modes automatically. The jet of water is needed for fish to swim against the current to get 'exercise' where the Koralia is a broad flow suited for corals so that a coral's delicate tissues won't get 'blasted' with direct flow.

Good news: my fishs will be here tomorrow about 10:30 a.m.
I think everything is ready to go except my 70 watt MH (viper). It won't come on.

It's definitely burned out.

I'm going order some things but first I must post a poll to learn about metal halide bulb color temperature. I've never shopped for MH bulbs.

This is what I woke up to this morning. I feared the worst.

Yesterday someone called from Inland Aquatics, Dave answered the phone and the guy said the fish were shipped and should be there tomorrow around 10:30. When 1:00 rolled around today I called FedEx and they tracked down the package and told me it should get to me after an hour or so. Here's the FedEx man at our family's health food store.

They're in quarantine and doing fine but no pictures yet. I want very low lighting conditions until they are comfortable with their surroundings.

From the time I got them home to the end of acclimation it took about 2 hours.
