Just a quick update on my IN-100 from MD.
I had one impeller stoppage at around 24 hours after install and so I called MD (they mailed a new one, which took a couple days to locate and w/holidays, it just arrived today). I did unfreeze the needle wheel at the time of failure and found it to be barely "wobbly" - however, it has ran just fine since, without fail despite spinning a bit untrue. The new impeller/needle wheel is perfectly straight and true and spins like a top on glass! After a week of use, I couldn't be more happy with the Vertex. I have the IN-100 on my 70 gallon (add 20 for sump) and it certainly outperforms my previous ($500+) skimmer and is MUCH easier to use as well. Like I said before, I knew I would pay a premium for this hobby and I have (~$4,500 for my current tank set-up). This Vertex is my one and only piece of equipment I would call a bargain. I've had cheap equipment (we all have) and they were no bargain. This is inexpensive and I'm in no hurry to replace it. R- |

Unbelievable, my skimmer arrived today at 6:00 am in Mobile at the UPS distribution center but I won't get it until Friday. I saw Fed Ex running today. Does UPS run tomorrow? Happy New Year everyone.

Well, you had better get your skimmer quick as the Premium Aquatics sale ends in like an hour . They have them on sale now for
End of Year Holiday Special, reg. $319.95 - sale ends Dec 31st 2008 Rating: none Quantity in Basket: none Code: VX-IN250 Price:$239.95 (SALE PRICE) Thats a great price for a nice skimmer!! Although it is at the end range for a 250 gal N-250 13" x 10" (footprint) 30" tall 8" diameter 150-250 Gallons The footprint seems a little big for your sump though by a 1/4 inch maybe you can swing it or check your measurments again. Not sure. I am sure you could sell it outright to someone if it doesn't fit though for the price they are offering it at it migjht be worth a try. Anyways, I have to go light off some fireworks and finish my bottle of wine...hehe Happy New Year and good luck. Don't forget sale ends at midnight!! |

mojo its nice having a skimmer that i don't have to play around with or worry about overflowing. I started with 2 hang on skimmers and didn't get job down added a sump to my tank with berlin skimmer and than an octopus skimmer they all pulled gunk out but not enough to keep up. This vertex pulled 3 2liters of dark gunk and now skimmate is lightened up and everything still running good and keeping cup cleaned once a week. i pulled twice as much dark skimmate a week than my octopus did.

originally i was going to go with msx 200 but sump was to tight of fit, and wife would have killed me if i told her i needed new sump, 2006 i bought current pc bulb fixture, 2007 i bought outer orbit metal halide fixture, and now nova extreme pro and i'm on 4th skimmer so i was pushing it with the wife. Glad i got what i want and its all working out now i got to sell some rbta that keep splitting so i can change out stock bulbs in nova pro for some ATI bulbs and i'll be set.

I believe we're experiencing a batch of impellers/needle wheels that were less than balanced.
My replacement set is spot on and the motor runs very quiet and produces as many small bubbles as I've ever seen. So, a good impeller/needle wheel assembly seems to be the ticket with these. MD exchanged mine without a hiccup! ******************************************* The acrylic housing is well designed and quality constructed. The pump is fine with these, it just needs to run with an aligned shaft/NW. I wouldn't trade mine. ******************************************* |

Gabe, your sump should have a diagonal that will accomodate it. My sump were the In-100 will go is only 9 1/2 long by 9 1/2 wide. I have a diagonal of 13 1/4. I'll let you know how I fit it in. I may have to build it in the sump.

I haven't gotten mine but I will post as soon as it arrives. It is here in Jacksonville but I guess you can't just go pick it up, instead I have to wait for them to deliver it.
