My name is Dan, I'm 21, married for almost two years, with a 7 month old son. I've been in the hobby for two years, longtime lurker of RC, decided its about time I start contributing lol. I have a 65g mixed reef that has suffered some mild negligence the past 7 months (priorities lol), but as my wife and I learn to better balance our new lives as parents with our old lives, I've been rediscovering this awesome hobby and getting my tank back on track. I look forward to becoming a more involved member of the RC community, and as my wife and I look for a new, larger home, hopefully an upgrade. Just don't tell Mom!

Hi my name is Rob and I am starting a new build (my first custom build) with a 240 gallon T****** acrylic flat back hex tank. I was in the hobby almost 20 years ago and recently got the bug to jump back into the water full steam! I recently acquired a working 220 gallon glass tank with livestock (fish, softies). Although the livestock seems well adjusted and healthy the water quality and set up is marginal so I will be posting here in the forums for help getting the new set up, stand build, plumbing build and all the fun in the process while I work to maintain and improve the existing tank! Looking forward to meeting the members here in the forum and hopefully gaining insight with all the experience "floating" around here! Cheers everybody...

Hi everyone. I am new to saltwater, and have a 90 gallon cube I will be setting up as a reef. I have had fresh water for years, but I am sure I will have lots and lots of questions. I am mostly lurking and reading, but am sure I will be needing advice soon!

Hi my name is Janet and I live in the greater Phoenix area (Chandler). I have a 40 gallon breeder FOWLR in my preschool classroom (two clowns, a butterfly cardinal, and a lawnmower blenny). All the children love it and come from all over the school, "Look at the Nemo's!!" I got a piece of live rock about 5 months ago with some zoa's on it, and they didn't die. So I now have a $5 mushroom frag and so far so good. So now I'm hooked! Slowly it will become a reef tank (all dependent on preschool teachers salary) This site has been a great resource! Thx!

Hello all. My name is Ben, I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and recently moved to Harrisburg. I'm just getting back into the hobby. Starting small with a 14gal Biocube. Though I still have my 75 Bowfront, begging for some saltwater. Looking forward to learning from all of you. Thanks in advance.

Newbie
Hi, I'm new to the hobby and to fourms. Had a friend offer me a 400g reef setup but didn't have the money at the time. Anyway, he got me interested in the hobby and i just picked up a 75g tank with a cabinet and hood. i have a 39g tank to make a sump, but noyhing else, but a desire to do it right on a small budget. I looked on ebay for lighting and a skimmer and found some cheeper than I expected. Started me thinking I had better get some help before wasting my budget. Anyone could tell me how many watt light I would need for my 4ft 75g tank? how much I should spend on lighting and what type would best work for a newbie? Also have same questions about skimmers. Thanks,
Prothro |

Hello...I'm new to the forums and the hobby. I picked up a 14g nano cube from a friend of a friend with two clown fish / live rock/sand. I've since added a cleaner shrimp and a few beginner corals (kenya tree, hammerhead coral frag). The tank was already modded with LED lights.

Hello, I've literally been a life long freshwater keeper, keeping everything from large cichlids to high tech planted tanks, goldfish to killifish. And after years of planning and budgeting its time to take the plunge head first into saltwater.
Having bought a 150 gallon tank two years ago with the intent to keep a planted discus tank, I soon ran out of funds due to life getting in the way, remodeling and a career change. Now that things have stabilized and I have some disposable income I figured why compromise with a discus set up when I can actually have the large reef tank that I have always wanted. As a result of this epiphany I've been slowly amassing materials and equipment over the past two year and am finally reaching the point where water in the tank is not merely an idea but on the near horizon, specifically before year end. So here is where I sit now, the "fish room" has been completely gutted, wiring installed, drains have been installed, water lines are plumbed from the water mixing area in the utility room, floor is tiled. As for equiptment my Apex unit will be arriving next month, all my lighting supplies should be here within two weeks, DIY full spectrum LED with independent control for each color, 4 big empty glass boxes are sitting in the room waiting for me to settle on my sump/refugium arrangement, a cheap Boyu skimmer is sitting in a box in the corner as it was a present from the other half, Reef Crystal salt was bought at last year boxing day sale. Due to my career I have to go very slowly with anything I do, being an oil pipeline inspector I get called out to emergency situations with little notice, so any changes made to the system will be very gradual, as to not leave my other half with a dilemma when I'm thousands of km's away. I guess I should start a build thread as this is meant to be a brief introduction, and well it appears I'm anything but brief once the fingers hit the keyboard. |

Hi All! I'm new to the hobby and in the process of setting up my first saltwater tank. I've had freshwater tanks off and on for years and currently have a 20G freshwater, 55G freshwater, and working on setting up a 55G fowlr to get into saltwater. I've got the tank, stand, dry base rock, sand, etc... I'm still waiting on some equipment to arrive, but hoping to be able to fill the tank and start cycling in the next week or so.
I've been lurking RC for a while and learned a ton. Thanks! |

It is a 65 gal tank and has a bit of live rock, sand, variety of fish and am just starting to add a little coral to the tank. A BIG thanks to this forum and everyone who helps and supports! Lots of great info here and I decided to register as Im sure I will keep coming back for info and ideas. |

New to reefing
Hello,
My name is Justin, I'm a 37 yo software engineer, married with two children (4 and 12). I've had aquariums all of my life and at one point about 10 years ago I was a supplier to a lot of pet stores for fresh water fish. I've breed and raised anything from Discus to Tanganyikan Cichlid's and just about everything else inbetween. How ever I've never had the pleasure of doing a salt reef. And I'm looking forward to the years to come. I had someone give me an entire setup because they were tired of looking at an empty aquarium that an ex had left in her house. Being the aqua-nut I am I couldn't say no ... my bank account how ever wishes I would have. Looking forward to some great conversations and leaning on some real help here! |

Hello everyone, new to the hobby. Been doing freshwater for 10 years and had cichlids in a 10 gallon tank which they outgrew and just been upgraded to a 40 breeder. Now I'm going to do a nano reef with the 10 gal to get my feet wet in the saltyness of the hobby. Glad to read everyone's advice on here!

Newbie Here
Hello all, My name is Michael, I am from E. Quogue NY and I am taking the plunge into the unknown. I was always so intimidated by saltwater tanks, so I had smaller freshwater setups. I am now going to get myself a 140 gallon tank and stand and attempt to set up a live reef. I have been looking all over to learn what I can and even watched videos on Youtube. I am in no rush. I wont be ordering any kind of live sand or live rocks untill I feel comfortable to where I think I can keep them alive. So If any posts seem stupid, I am sorry in advance.

First Post - Hi Guys - New Frag Tanks
Hi Guys, First Post here!
After having a local fish store here in Orlando, FL set up my Red Sea Max S650, I decided to set up a couple smaller tanks on my own for growing coral. The tanks are still cycling and I can't wait to start adding coral. I'm thinking of getting some things from Jason Fox and Sexy Corals. This weekend I set up the Radion lights, Vortech Pumps, and an Apex AquaController. I am still learning a lot, but absolutely love this hobby! |

Hello. I've wanted to have a saltwater tank since the first time I watched Jaws. 35 years later, I'm finally able to begin my quest to owning a shark tank. Starting with the baby steps of course with a 55 gal. With six months experience, i am still trying to wrap my head around the science of this hobby. My wife lets me spend loads of mony on it and I'm quickly realizing that this is as addicting as any narcotic!
