Hey all. I am thinking about getting the 72" 3 250w and 4 80w T5. Currently im running a 72" 3 150w and 4 90w PC . My tank is open top and I am not running a chiller. The tank temp usually runs about 79 to 84 degrees depending on the seasons. Any opinions on this light and if the 250w will run my tank temp to high ?

Does anybody use the 20k bulbs from oddysea? They are only like $35 shipped for 3 of them, so im gunna try them out. I remember being pleased with the 15k's i had from them.

tried the 20k bulbs, not to bad, the are close to a phoenix 14k but not quite the same punch.
I had an oddysea fixture awhile ago and had no problems with it so when i upgraded tanks i ordered two 48' halide/t5 fixtures. So far all 4 ballasts crapped out, first one 4 days in. They said they'd replace it if i payed shipping but i ended up buying something else sooner. Then both T5 ballasts pooched. Now basically im only using the fixture housing for different bulbs, different reflectors, and different ballasts. If i could have it all back i would have shopped elsewhere for my lights!!.....JMO |

Hey everyone! So I've read and read and read about this and decided to order it. I currently have a 90 gal reef with a 20 gal sump. Honestly, I've done bare minimum over the YEARS...no idea about my ph, ammonia, calcium levels, NOTHING. I am clueless. I do about 40% water changes every three weeks approximately and douce the Kent calcium every once and a while...think I got it down tho cuz corals are all happy and so are fish and crab. I'm posting this bc I feel like it's time to get serious and understand what I'm doing. I haven't replaced lights in over a year. I have a current 4x130...two blue and two white fIxture...been great but LEDs are out, one bulb is 28 inches or something, and one fan doesn't work. I know HORRIBLE!! So my question is this...I have some pics I'll post and I'm hoping someone can help me identify what I have and once I get new odyssea 48 will jumping from approx 500 (probably way less with old bulbs and one half sized bulb) watts to 700 (of course will get new bulbs when I buy with new system) watts?? I think I have hard and soft corals...???...and know I have a cleaner shrimp and emerald crab and nemo, blue damsal, big beautiful flame angel and lawnmower blenny. Again as horrible as I've been to maintain the tank everything is thriving. Oh yeah I also have turbo twist (??) uv sterilizer. I have pretty good water movement and no problems with heat. ADVICE? OPINIONS? everyone seems extremely knowleable and am hoping to learn more. Pics coming I promise! Thanks so much! -conor

I can only vouch for 2011 346w advanced plus. Works flawless 4 months so far. Anything past a year is a bonus. Ballast doesn't even get hot. I also use an 6 inch fan and 13" off the water on my 20h mixed reef. Sps are thriving with stock bulbs.

I ordered 4X250Watt 20k odyssea HQI bulbs for $40!
I think they are way to blue for my taste and regret going so blue. The only benefit is my front panel scratches are less visable then the 14k bulb. Nevertheless I think these bulbs need a daylight supplement (which is why Id stick with the 14 k) with actinics (t5 or LEDs). I plan on ordering 1 iwaski bulb and have it on the right side where my light hungry corals are. The left side has soft corals and LPS and I think the 14k to 20K transition will look awesome. I wish some one would do some PAR test on these cheap Odyssea bulbs. I am reluctant to believe that these are as good for SPS than the name brand lamps. I do have icecap ballast and this is the reason I feel confident my bulbs are powered better then the stock Odyssea ballasts (which are horrible). IMO Odyssea should not sell ballast!!! |

Im still debating on a 24" 250w/T5 in the Odyssea OR the Hamilton Cabu
Sun. Price will be close after replacing all bulbs and ballasts so not sure what to do. Then I have a friend that is trying to sell me on the Maxspect Razor 160w led fixture |

Hamilton is the best imo

I have had both and the Odyssea is ok but the wiring seems thinner than it should be and after a while the wires get very brittle. Not sure why? I have the 3 fixture Hamilton Cayman Sun Metal Halide System and they have great reflectors. Very pleased with them. |

I had an odyssea fixture for almost a year. Did OK but I switched to LEDs a few months ago and couldn'tbe happier. My advice would be to go LED. No heat, less electricity and no bulb changes.
