I've made a few changes. I pulled the scwd because it vibrated the the pipes when switching. I could have reduced the amout of the flow to get rid of it, but that kind of defeats the purpose. I replaced the scwd with a t, but then it doesn't alternate.

I traded the scwd for the modded mj pictured above. last night I ordered another one which with the 2 I'll be at almost 60 times turnover within the tank.

Really, I would think that's enough, but I still want something that alternates so with the mj I ordered a sea swirl for the return.

That's it. The two koralias and the seio that were gonna be used are already sold which covered the cost of the sea swirl, so the wife didn't get too ticked at me spending 34 bucks on the other mj.

Talking if you can pull a rabbit out of the hat then post here

hi-swift you may be able to help with this as well, heres a few pics of my cabinet, as you guys will see ive now moved the controller and resevoir from the right hand side of my cabinet to make room for my refugium, firstly i have the electrics problem, i will get over that somehow im sure, once they are cleared i should be able to squeeze a standard 10 gallon tank in the right hand side to become my refugium, a 6" sand bed and cheato is my thoughts, question, how the hell am i going to feed it from the sump in the left hand side and back to the tank, even if i tee off the input to the sump from the tank ive got 2 returns, help please

magicians please speak up

Hey TJ, you're everywhere!

John, very nice setup.

Misled, so you did away with the CL altogether?

Michael, it looks like you need a satellite cabinet. Some piece of furniture, a chest or something, that can sit next to the stand and fit in with the rest of your décor. This will increase your available space to house components and allow you more flexibility.

Is it your opinion that the 54 corner is too small for a CL? I'm asking because I've thought of trying it but am not sure that it is feasible.

Hey Jesse,

I see you used at MJ 900 for the mod. I was told by my LFS that the MJ's are all the same "pump" and only the impeller is changed, so under that logic you could have used an MJ 400?

Can you or anyone else confirm?

I was able to pickup two crocea clams at my LFS i'm very happy with both, who in less than 24hrs attached to the rock work with their foot...

I've also fixed the aquascaping, and IMO it's better than ever!

Photos of all incoming when I get home.

I just ordered a Tunze Turbelle Stream 6065 to replace the two 6025 pumps in my 54 gallon tank. I modified the 6025 pumps for more output by cutting away some of the internal tunnel around the impeller, and the increase in flow was very noticeable. Has anyone modified a Tunze 6065 to increase flow beyond the factory-claimed 1700 gph?

One of the best things I ever did for my tank, re flow and water management, was to split the return line and get 2 Sea Swirls and mount them facing each other on the straight sides of my 54g bow. The water movement gets everywhere, and the fish love the chaotic flow. Since they swing, and get out of time with each other and phase back in, they mean no more fish hanging in one spot and no place for detritus to settle permanently.

I plan on putting the sea swirl on the overflow. I have a pic in my mind how it will look, but we know how that goes. The mj's will be on the side walls facing each other.

I like the sea-swirls but didn't want to use them because my return-flow from my sump is around 400gph, which I can increase to 1700gph, but do not want to.

So I considered a closed-loop, and then my wife stopp'ed beating the living crap out of me with pots and pans, so I agreed I wouldn't tear the walls apart for a closed loop... and the dream of sea-swirls died.

+1

That would be an ideal fix.

In order to get a separated refugium to work, you would need to have it elevated higher than the sump so you can gravity feed it back into the sump. I think in order to accomplish that, you would need to drill a hole to feed plumbing through the center section of your stand, and I'm not sure what that would do to the integrity of the stand. A small PVC sized hole probably wouldn't be that bad though. Here's an example that I used under my 55g... obviously you're under a bit of space constraint, but should give you the basic idea.

You would need to get your electric separated somehow though. The last thing you want is is falling into the fuge. Perhaps if you could build a little stand to raise the fuge in the stand, you could place it underneath.

As far as the sand bed in the fuge. I would skip it all together. In a refugium that small I doubt you'll get any real benefit from it, or enough to notice an impact on your tank. I would just pack it with macro, maybe some LR rubble as well.

Nice thread you've guys got going.
