Very nice photos. I tried to use my macro zoom lens last night to get some worm photos. But I had to stand 3 feet from the tank to focus. That clam looks alittle sickly dont you think LOL

Ken, to use a Macro lens from 3 feet away, you're going to have to break out the tripod. Additionally, it would be best if you use the timer feature to count down and release the shutter without your touch. This will remove all vibration. Do not walk around as it counts down, as your footfalls can vibrate the tripod as well.

You wish you had a sick clam like that.

Yeh but I was way to lazy to get the tripod out for worm photos
I also have a wireless remote for my camera.

I maybe able to bring it back to health for you if you like.

RGibson - I can't answer that but I but there would be some excellent suggestions in the Photography forum. I do use a tripod from time to time, but my camera allows me to shoot without one because I can press the lens against the tank. In Macro mode, I need to be 8" away from the object - and my tank is 30" deep. In Super Macro, I need to be 1cm away from the object, so I can press against the glass to get those super close ups.

Kendog, I think I'll just take my chances.

The last one was on 9/11, so I do need to take a new one. It doesn't look much different to me, honestly. I'll get one added in the next day or so. I need to clean the edges of the glass first.

Mark, I'm taking your advice and getting a mag drive pump to replace my Rio 2100. Hopefully this will help with the bubbles. My ques. is earlier you said get a mag 5. I have a Pro clear Aquatics overflow with two 1inch bulheads should i get a mag 5 or 7? I know you said the mag 5 would push about 350 gph. I wander if it could handle more without sounding like a commode flushing?

It is a 75g reef tank. There is no reason to push a ton of flow through the sump, which is why I recommended a Mag 5 with 1" return plumbing.

If you want to run a larger pump like a Mag 9.5, that would be okay. Drawbacks: More heat in the water, more energy consumed 24/7, greater likelihood of microbubbles in the display.

Two 1" drains will handle as much as 1200 gph, but you don't have to drain that much. Slower flow means slower draininig and that equals quieter drains.

OK I understand my next question would be about the return you mention one inch return. currently I am ruuning a 3/4 return and I know the mag 5 comes with a 1/2 inch return. How do I correctly replumb for one inch?

I placed filter socks in my sump that has helped with bubbles. I meesed up when I bought a Pro Clear Aquatics 200 wet/dry instead of getting sump. Its hard to rework a wet dry. well that is in the past and I'm slowly figuring it out with the help of reef central graets like yourself thanks.

Mark, you will like this one. I emailed customer service at Rio about the new hyperflow 17 that raised the temp in my tank by 7 degrees. Kevin emailed me back and said that there was no way a Rio pump operating at 55 watts would raise the tank temp 7 degrees if properly used. He went on to say that he is using over 10 Rio pumps in his tank with no problems. He also said that people like to bash Rio but if I would look at other companies reviews they have complaints as well. At least they did reply!!!

I would still send it back as defective and ask for your money back. Since you aren't bashing him but citing a legitimate complaint, you should be a good ground.

I wonder what his reply would be to the one that just nuked my barrel of water?

Supreme Mag pumps state in their instructions to double the outlet size. I would use a union with a bushing to increase the size to 1". That allows you an easy way to disconnect the pump for cleaning. The Mag 7 uses a 1/2" outlet as well, so you could use either pump.

He emailed me back after my reply and he says that he will replace the hyperflow with a Seio 820 since I have one now and have no complaints with it. Thats better than the LFS which said sorry charlie . I said that fine my thousands I spend yearly will be spent at another local LFS. At least Rio responded I've seen people have less luck so I will not complain

I will let you know how it turns out once I ship the hyperflow back to Rio.

hey Mark im using a rio 3100 for my return pump at this time. (thanks for freeking me out) I better replace it before something bad happens to mine. I have a 30 gallon cube tank and the return pipe has about a 4' lift using 3/4" pipe. What mag pump would you recommend to replace it?

bklynmet - that's what I said, and why I dedicated an entire post to my baby.

Ken - the 3100 isn't known for killing a tank from everything I've read. A 30g cube wouldn't need a big return pump. I had a Mag 5 for the return on my 29g for two years, and it worked out perfectly at 5' vertical head pressure. I used a 1" return line.

Found another picture I didn't add last night.

This coral is 3 or 4 years old, I forget. The bottom one is a baby of the parent colony, and the baby is larger than the original piece purchased. The branches in the back on the smaller piece are being burned by the Lavendar Frillies. This pieces measure 14" from left edge of the parent to the right edge of the baby.

I bet all of your cyno problem is because all this dead snails i seen in your sand bed , you must have many more in the back of the rocks you don't even see. I tell you after all my snails die and rot away in my tank the cyno just disappear. I know we talk about this before but after i saw this pictures i know you have the same problem i have.

I would think that my bristleworms would consume the snails and leave empty shells, Steve. Hermits would get the rest.

So.... when is the TOTM coming? I think it's due time for this fabulous tank to be highlighted as it deserves.
