CritterK4re, that is a basic bristle worm and it won't hurt your anemone. Far, far more likely your anemone would eat the worm if it got the chance.

Thank you for your response. I'm wondering how it got into my tank? I purchased a GSP frag about ten days ago, and it wasn't until after I introduced it into my tank that I learned it should have been dipped first. However, I didn't notice a worm on it. Don't know how else it would have gotten there though.

Have new Red Sea Reefer 450 about 100 gal total. It was set up about 3 weeks ago with live sand and live rock. was told to wait a few weeks No ammonia spike. Added 2 clown fish about a week ago. and have been feeding frozen Mysis shrimp once a day. Still no ammonia, nitrate or nitrite. I thought I was going to see something in this family.

2 questions

Is the tank ready for more fish or coral?

I would like to add more sand and rock. is this ok now?

Thanks

Bristle worms can hide in some very small spaces. I collected some chitons off pin shells on the beach today. At home I was removing the chitons from the shells and found a bristle worm in the very small hinge of the shell.

Don't worry, bristle worms are OK in the tank. I have quite a few and typically I only see them when I remove a rock. They are harmless.

...any clue what this thing might be, looks like no other coral or invert in my tank. That was the last little piece of rock I out in there and I THOUGHT it had no hitchikers. Excuse the dirty glass

help

Anyone know what this is? It just showed up in the sand bed right up tight to the glass dead center of the front of the tank. I think its some kind of anemone from the way it looks and acts but I've ever seen one so small. Its about the same size of the gravel. It appears to have white tentacle and the foot seems to be green with white stripes.

critter id

so i saw this yesterday in my LR, its a white bubble with string like fixing it like a spiderweb, it looked like little bugs running around on the ball but it could have been just junk floating around. the while ball is about the size of a pea, which makes me think it might be a sponge but i haven't seen them with the stringers like this

this other one is confusing me too, one spot kinda looks like a pineapple sponge but the whole torch coral, (this one only) is covered on the stems in a almost translucent fuzz, but it is not on any of the new growth. When i first got this coral a few months ago non of this fuzz was on it.

any help figuring out what these 2 are would be great, i do have a few pineapple sponges showing up in some of the new rock.

My best guess is that you are right. I have seen an anemone that, although much bigger, looked like yours. We collected it at the beach after a storm here in SW Florida. I believe it's NOT photosynthetic so you will need to feed it if you plan to keep it. I don't believe it's a pest anemone as mine didn't split and I was only able to keep it alive for a year.

Good luck.

It could be a majano anemone which is a pest as it replicates fairly quickly and will sting corals. I'd say 90% chance.

On the other hand it could be a single polyp of some species of coral. I'd say 10% chance.

Maybe others will feel more positive about what it is. Good luck.

Thanks I will try feeding it. Do you know what it was called or have any pictures of the one you had?

As stated in the invert forum, these are nassarius snails and are good sand stirrers and cleaners. I've collected some from a shallow sand/mud flat here in SW Florida. They do survive in aquariums but they are also easy targets for predators as well.
