I do not have anywhere local to be able to get a feel for color ratios and how to design an LED layout appealing to look at. I'm currently looking at picking up 2 of the EverGrow IT120's but have no idea where to start laying out a design and what colors to make everything look good? Right now I'm FOLR due to lack of adequite lighting but will be adding SPS & LPS after the upgrade so I appreciate any feedback as I'm ready to order as soon as we sort this.

Marinelend LED's
I had 2 marineland reef led's 1 burned out 3 led's and melted hte plug going into the little. the other one just burned out the same 3 led's so the marineland aren't any better.

Will 3 violets 2 reds and 2 greens be enough to make a noticeable difference? And shouldn't they go on the blue channel so there on with the blues to add the color pop of the blue affect?
I'm going to do a 2 to 1 blu to white ratio either 32 blues 16 whites 3 violets 2 greens 2 reds or 30 blu 15 whites 4 violets 4 reds 2 greens.... also there are 2 kinds of reds which do you use bhaz? |

Where did you buy the lights from? What color ratio did you end up going with?

If you wanted a custom led layout, you would have to order from Evergrow direct. |

I would use some warm and neutral whites mixed in with the cool whites too. |

The reef breeders one is the same as the it120 they just get the it120s from ever grow and resell then in states ... picking a color is kinda a shot in the dark depends on what kinda look you like some people like 14k look me personally I like the 20k look ... I'd include some violets some reds and some greens ...the rest is just a preference of how many blues to whites you wanna use and what kinds of blues and what kinda whites

The d120 has the same quality of leds, but doesn't do automatic dimming, it only has dimmer knobs and no moonlights or extra features. |

Thanks guys this post is so educational! For the reefbreeders = How much units would I need to cover the tank 7ft X 2ft deep? I have a canopy do I need 90 optics or is it better to hang and remove the canopy? Note I have a Naso tank that is a bit volatile so I prefer the canopy he jumps a bit! With the D120 is there a standard 20k version with some violet, red's, greens, (blues/whites) that is predesign? I am leaning towards the D120 for price? But, I have killed a few reef's before (shhhh bad choices not experienced!! etc). I am debating the programable's? But it's a bit more $$$$. Any advise? Can the d120 be controlled by an external controller that may be cheeper? I currently have no lights on the system since my 125 gave way and let itself free? What a mess to clean up and save the fishes! I used a lot of my $$$$ on getting a new system. I am thinking of purchasing this friday? Help!!!! Ohhh thanks again for the info!

Well I run one d120 with out optics on a 3 foot long 65 gall I'd deff suggest you use 90 degree with optics in a tank 2 feet deep ... and I'd use 3 units on a 7 foot long tank see how 3 looks before ya spending on a 4th ....
You can use the d120 in a timer or a apex or reef keeper but it can't change the dimmer through it just the on and off times of the white channel and the blue channel.... any dimming will be by hand I just have mine turned all the way up and leave it there but you can adjust it to what look u like best and leave it there .... the d120 is by far the cheaper route and best bang for your buck I mean you can get 3 d120s for 540 where 3 IT120s are gonna be 960 ... but the it120 does have its extra perks way better heat sinking ...LCD screen .... sunrise sunset affect .... moon lights built it ... linkable ... deff a sweet light |

@ Travis1787 Thanks, so true and hard to decide. I found these they look great.
$175.50 per unit! I thinking the same colors from reefbreeders. Still I like the perks of the It120 wish I could custom build the Twilight to the IT120 spec/perks.....left the rep a message! Will update! How do these compare to the d120? Do anyone have these? I going to look into evergrow now! Last edited by debbie3; 10/17/2012 at 07:38 PM. |
