Ok, Kessil friends - would like to pick the brain trust! I love my 160WE and felt fairly confident in my research and advice from trusted LFS that it would be enough light for my Nuvo Fusion 20. However, I am noticing that even though the zoas and shrooms seem happy, they are stretching and I'm wondering if there isn't actually enough light for this tank. LPS directly dead center under light seem to be doing well but the stuff slightly off to the side is stretching a bit.

Thoughts?

If this light isn't enough, would the proper course of action be to upgrade to the 360WE or add another 160 and hang two on the tank? I would really prefer to only have the one center light if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for the input.

The same thing happened in my 10 gallon when I first hooked up my 160. Try slowly turning up the intensity until you find where your corals are most happy. In my tank I hit 60% intensity at peak. I haven't tried going any higher because everything seems very happy with the sunrise/sunset schedule.

Question for all those running kessils. I've been running mine on a 150 tall for about four months with a ramp intensity topping at 75% and 60% color for five hours a day with a ramp on each side totaling 13 hours total light.

Can anyone explain why my green slimmer and orange caps are muted. The green slimmer has almost gone to a dark gray bar color with green polyps over the last two months?

Water parameters are 0 PO4 and 1ppm nitrate. Alk 10.5dkh. Ca 450. Mag 1450.

@fishin710, thanks for the suggestion! I'm running the 160 at 90% intensity at the high point of the day and the polyps on the sides are still stretching but well colored and growing. I looked at the output diameter of both the 160 and 360 and they are supposed to both be 24". I'm going to move some of the zoas and see what happens.

Any here have success with DIY moonlight around the kessil?

I wish they had set the newest light to be able to go to 0. Only thing I have or want to attach it to is the light itself.

Running 4 A360WEs on a 120x29x31" tank.

Will be adding 2 more soon.

Added the first acros to the tank a few weeks ago and nuked their tips with the Kessils.

Dialed it way back and started working back up.

Up to 50% color and 73% intensity. Will probably stop around 85% intensity and leave color as is. Unless I see something suggesting more or less intensity is needed.

GHA sure loves kessils though

That rack was kinda a pain to make. It is 1/2 inch electrical conduit with 2 90 degree bends.

Cool! You should consider drilling holes in the conduit to run your wiring through... Would really clean up the look!

Might do that in the future, I think the plan is to get another 160 for the middle or maybe a 360 for the middle and the 2 160s on the sides if I decide to put SPS in there. Who knows, maybe the 160s will be enough. Just got the lights yesterday and today will be the first full day running them. Corals seem to be opening up running it on the lowest intensity with full color (all the way white).

Has anybody considered hanging your kessils from the A.I. Rack?

Lots of good ideas above…. but i'm thinking of some how incorporating the A.I adjustable rack. This way it will hide the wires, and you can adjust the height, and place them on both sides of rack for better coverage. This of course applies to larger tanks. My tank is 6' wide.

Anybody try this ???

Here's a video of our tank from yesterday.

4 A360WEs. Going to add two more.

These are running in a cloud mode during the video. ~ 40% color, 50% intensity. Normally during that time of day they'd be at 50% color and 75% intensity. Still ramping up.

Tank is 31" deep and lights are 8-10" above the water.

I'm running 3 X 360we at 100% intensity and 60% color. I am still playing around with this to see what's best. The lights r about 10" above the water line. I am running these with 2 X 84w ati fixtures.

Tank is 60x35x21. So far the results are amazing.
