They're what I, and many others, primarily use. They're comparable to ati and have some nice colors available. There was a fantastic thread that someone out together that shows some real detail on both brands bulbs. Anyone have a link to jedimasterbens thread?

I planning my light for 375 gal. (96" x 36" x 24" height.) mix reef sps on top and lps at the middle and bottom of the tank. Can anyone let me know what T5 ho fixtures would work for what I need . Thanks in advance

I am pondering a change to T5 on my 93 Cube, 30"x30"x24", to a ATI 8 bulb setup.

The bulb layout I remember seeing way back was:
(front)
Blue Plus
Purple Plus
GE 6500
Blue Plus
Purple Plus
Blue Plus
Blue Plus

I am not seeing the GE 6500 avalible anymore but it appeasrs D-D has a 6500 bulb called Midday that appears similar in spectrum.

Understand that the order of the bulbs affects the view somewhat so I was thinking:

(front)
Blue Plus
Purple Plus
Blue Plus
D-D Midday 6500
Purple Plus
Blue Plus
Blue Plus

Any other suggestions or cautions?

I'm getting a 4x24" with led moonlights. He says I need new bulbs. I've been away from hobby for 5 years and don't know who has what now. I will have a mixed coral reef. I want colour pop and growth out of my 24" cube. I don't want a fake looking blue tank but still want that glow pop What should I use???

When I ran the ge6500k bulb I ran the purple plus bulbs in position 2 and 7 and GE in position 4. The rest blue plus.

Many of us 4 lamp users run 2 blue+ and 2 coral +. Run your blue moonlights at the same time for a little more actinic pop if you like.

One of my corals hates me.

Hi Everybody,

Great thread! Thanks for all of the information. I'm looking for some suggestions as I'm having some trouble getting my pink birdsnest to color-up under my current configuration.

I have it in my 175 under an 8-bulb T5 (all ATI bulbs) it looks bleached when the lights are on (but pink when the lights are out). I have the fixture 12" off the surface and am currently getting a PAR of 285 where this coral is affixed to the reef.

I think it's maybe a spectrum issue as it is pink without any lights on and maybe fooling my human eyes, thus my post here for suggestions.

The tank has been up for over 6 months, it's a mixed reef, and all other corals appear to be in good health (fat, growing, good PE, etc.) - other SPS included.

Here was my configuration last week - 5 Blue+, 1 Purple+, 1 AquaBlue Special, 1 Coral+ (Front to Back):

B+
B+
ABS
P+
B+
C+
B+
B+

I have since swapped the ABS for a Pure Actinic, but have the same coloration issues.

From reading this thread, I am thinking that I may need more balance with the B+ by adding more C+ bulbs, but I am not sure.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Your spectrum is fine, PAR may be a bit high. More likely your nutrients are a bit too low.

Any suggestions? Raise the light higher? Feed more, or something specific? Thanks.

Without knowing the specifics, I would suggest making sure your nitrate is not zero. if it is, feeding more and adding more fish are fine suggestions to improve your Nitrate values, or you can dose calcium, sodium,or potassium nitrate.

Thanks mhucasey.

I am currently dosing 2-part and Mag. Will check for nitrates.

What do you guys think about

4=ATI Blue Plus
2=ATI Purple Plus
2=ATI Coral Plus

On a Marineland 120 Corner Overflow thats going to be 95% SPS ?

I'm currently switching over from 2 Gen 2 Pros.

I think the more common combo is 5 blue, 2 coral and 1 purple. I think two purples and two corals might be too much red.

Getting close to bulb change time for me , might as well grab some while they're on sale. Tried 2 Giesemann Super Actinic last time around that I really like, they're little brighter than the ATI actinic.

Considering this combo:
4 ATI Blue Plus
2 Giesemann Super Actinic
1 Kz Fiji Purple ( prefer over the Purple + )
1 ATI Coral Plus

What do you think and could you suggest the order?

Will do. I put them in today but one of the actinic bulbs didn't fire. I'm taking it back tomorrow and will snap a picture once installed.

The T5 Q&a Thread - split

Quick question for some of ya-

One of the ballasts crapped out of my 6x54 dimable sunpower. So, I'm down to 4 tubes on my 75 gal sps tank. For adjustments, I dropped the light 3-4" closer to water level and kept all 4 bulbs on for 10 hours, instead of the usual. Does this sound like a decent plan of attack to mitigate the loss of the 2 bulbs until a ballast arrives on Tuesday? Thanks for your input!

I think leaving it at normal height and keeping your photoperiod the same as it was before will be fine for the short duration of this outage. People do 3 day blackouts with zero light all the time without losing corals. 4 days at 2/3 power won't be a problem.
