When this grows out it is going to be awesome.

Love the Blue Jaw. Hard to get here in Japan so I got a Niger Trigger recently. Hope it doesn't get too aggressive later on.

Thank you all for your kind words.

I am sadden to announce that the male trigger went back to the LFS
We could not get him to eat anything!, well, let's just say he ate want he was interested in, in the tank.
We caught him chopping on the torch coral, so I moved it to the front of the tank, where I could keep a better eye on him and the coral. It was a good and bad move, good for the torch, bad for my acans.
He spotted the acans and started drooling!, I grabbed a net as fast as I could and got him out of the tank on the first try!
I could not believe how easy it was for me to catch him, I guess he went into some kind of day dreaming mode on the acans, and did not hear the net entering the water. Out he went into the sump, and we set up a 10g holding tank until we were able to figure out what to do with him.
My torch coral will be fine. Not too much damage.
The female has been a role model fin! I hope she stays that way. If not, we will have to catch her and do the same.
She is eating the fish food, not the corals.
She looks like she is very sad now, swimming all over the tank looking for her friend. With the male out of the tank, the attention from her tank mates are on her, and they are not giving her a warm welcome.
I hoped for a good result with the triggers, Ed really enjoys them. I think he was sadder to see the fish go back.

I have to admit that Ed has been GREAT with the cross over from a predator FOWLR tank to a peaceful reef tank, he just doesn't like the "little fish" so to speak.

Sorry to hear your male trigger was misbehaving...!! Let's hope the female is better behave!!

Great thing you caught him in time too or god knows what sort of damage he would have done!!

If you've not send him back to the LFS, I would've suggest feeding him in the sump with yummy meaty food and once he knows how tasty those food are, he won't be looking for 'alternative' food in the reef lol

Actually, we did try and feed him krill, mysis shrimp and silver sides, while he was in the main tank & the 10g tank. I don't know why he didn't eat. The LFS owners & employees ensured me before I brought them home, that is what they were eating at the store.

Who knows, what went wrong.......

I am very glad I was able to remove him safely from the main tank without stressing him out or the worst nightmare ever, having to rearrange the main tank to remove him.

I think the female will be fine, she is eating the "fish" food so far.

Sorry to hear about your issues with the trigger. Guess you're very licky you could take him out without having to breakdown your tank at least.

Sorry to hear about the trigger, they are beautiful fish. I've had good luck with a niger in my 375 now for about 2 years. He's a model citizen, hasn't bothered his tank mates or the corals. Although I am not brave enough to try shrimp or clams in the tank.

Cool...

Sorry about the male trigger, but it sounds like you nursed him back to health before he repaid you by munching on your coral... Ungrateful pig!

Take a look at the Magnificent Foxface Rabbitfish sometime... they are interesting, beautiful and I have found mine to be completely reef safe...

Enjoy!

Being new to this hobby you probably have a million questions, I know I sure did. When I found RC, I had no idea that so many people had the answers for all the questions I had.

Hope you will enjoy this hobby as much as we do!

Thank you maroun.c,
breaking down the tank to catch a fish would not have been easy or fun!

That is great news about your niger trigger!
The female is still in the tank, and eating "fish food" I can only hope she continues to be a good fish, catching her is not going to be as easy as catching the male. She is a lot smaller than the male and twice as fast.

That male did not know how good life for him could have been living with me! he is an ungrateful pig!

Am I still talking about a fish here or my ex-husband

I hate to admit this, but when I asked Ed to purchase the silver sides for new addition to the tank, he spotted a BEAUTIFUL magnificent foxface, and now he resides in out tank as well.

I know they like zoas, which doesn't me much because I really do not want the zoas crowing out my SPS's.
I have tried to isolate the zoas (Ed's misfit island) from the rest of main rock work, Eds misfit island was next to a beautiful rock and a few zoas started growing on that rock and now there is more zoas on that beautiful rock than I want to count.

Maybe the foxface will take care of those for me, because I have no idea how to remove them safely from that rock. If not Ed will have two misfit islands in the tank

Just a word of advice. If you keep up the "bumps" to increase your post count you're going to incur the wrath of the mods.

Sandy
Sorry the Trigger had to go. Pity he didn't take the advice of all of us males 'listen to your mate' i.e. don't eat the corals or you're history.

How's the female Trigger doing? Is she still moping about the tank looking for her buddy?

BTW How do you subscribe to a thread? For some reason I lost all my subscriptions (including yours) and for the life of me I can't find the "Subscribe to this Thread" button (but I am getting old and senile )

Alan, if you reply to a thread (and you have email notifications on), you'll be subscribed. Or you can click on the "Subscribe" button at the base of the page, under the quick edit box. It's a blue text link.

Alan,
She is still moping around the tank, but her tank mates have finally accepted her.
I noticed that her top fin is turning yellow, like a male....
I hope she doesn't change.

I think Marc answered your question about the subscription,
Thanks Marc
