Well, I got my skimmer in today...has a bit of a crazed look to the collection cup but it still functions okay. The needwheel might be a bit of kilter cause it is a bit loud. It started up fine just has that "Quiet one" brand pump sound. Anyways, dealing with PA about warranty issues is a pleasure, they are sending out a collection cup oce they get more from the manufacturer. Honestly, the crazing is mearly cosmetic and will not affect the operation but it is still a defect in manufacturing however minute. the companies quality control will definitely nip it in the bud...despite the minor probs this is a solid performing skimmer... Whyireef, very good obserations about this thread..
Maybe I missed it in the thread but where is the "sweet spot" for the top of the water(foam) column? Here are a couple of pics. My blue Mille is happy... |

Received my in-100 as well and sad to say that my collection cup has the same crazing as others. Here's a photo:

wonder how they managed to only have problems with 100 model and not others did anyone else have problems with any other model skimmer cups or impellars or is this just in sump 100 models only.

Not that I have heard. Even the guy at PA said the same thing, that it had been the 100. Who knows really except for the guys at the companies quality control ept., if they have one...who knows...All being said i love my skimmer. It is miles above my last one in quality and performance.

it can take a half hour or maybe even 2 hours depends if you just got out of shower and still have soap residue on you.

Help!
I am designing my sump and need to know how deep the skimmer can sit in water? I can put it on a stand, but that adds to the overall height required under the stand! The model is the In250. Thanks, John |

well I ordered a few weeks ago. I ordered it to my school address. I was home away from school for christmas break. I got back last night and picked up the skimmer today from the office.
I too ordered the IN100 and I too have the markings in the collection cup. Here are a few pictures I just snapped. They look like little glass dents when I look close with some occasional horizontal scratches. I have to go to class here in a few but what do you guys think? Should I ask for a replacement from PA or will this perform the same? My setup won't be up and running for another 3 weeks or so I imagine. I'm kind of leaning towards getting a new one if I can because I'd like to be able to see all my gunk without having to see these markings. edit: after looking at everyone elses I feel like mine has the most markings! I think I'm going to email PA tonight to see if they can send me another...

Just got the IN 180. Now it's running in my tank. Was SO hard to shut down my Octo Extreme 200 after I did the meshmod, as it was skimming like there was no tomorrow!
Pump on the IN 180 is dead silent, can't hear anything. Skimmer came perfect, other than the Vertex decal that was bad placed(I removed it anyway). Skimmer construction it's on par with the Octo Extreme 200, very good. More updates as it breaks in more.

And for the IN 180 users, where are you leaving the water level inside the skimmer?

newmoon -I'd love to hear a head-to-head of the Vertex 180 vs the Extreme 200. I was between these two skimmers and went with the Vertex due to the sale. Hopefully you can do a quick write-up with after a while with some honest hands-on feedback.

I would put Newmoons skimmer pics up against any model Vertex. Not that his would win, but I would like to see some good skimmate pics from the Vertex.
Moon, please post some pics after you get it setup. Are you putting the Vertex on the same system you had the 200 on?

the crazing looks to be a reaction from the Styrofoam packing

definitely have PA send you a new one cause it might work just fine but would hate to see the cup have some kind of flaw and crack and break so i would get another just to be safe.

I'm asking about the "inside level", ya know. The "point" where water/air stills mixing "together". Above this "point" you see only foam. When you feed the tank, your skimmer stops to foam and the level inside drops. THAT is the water level I'm asking for. Would like to hear from IN 180 owners about this water level as well.

I just want to know from the IN 180 users where they have their water level set at first. I want to know how big of a head of foam these IN 180's are making. Guess I will find out soon! I have mine set up now where the neck/collection cup attaches to the body. At the "O" ring level.
