Thanks for the reply!

That is exactly my question though.... You said

In theory, should I just get more skimming ability or will I actually get more skimmate? I originally thought my 8-2 would be nice overkill.....

To over exagerate my question. If I put the 8-2 and the 12-1 (recirc model) on a nano each seperatly and for one week wont they both pull out the same amount of gunk? They both should pull out 100% of all the gunk a skimmer could pull out from that tank because they are both overated for the nano. The 12-1 may have more headroom.

Does my question make since? If my 8-2 pulls out 12oz of dark green skimate in about a week from my 120 now, do you think the 12-1 would pull out much more? At some point there should be diminishing return.

i fully understand your question that is why i worded my answer the way i did. to be a little more technical the 12-1 will remove the 'gunk' faster. it may not pull more on undersized systems but would be more efficient at doing it, that is why i went with a 12-2 on my 180g rather then an 8-4.

to oversimplify, your current skimmer is pulling 1 qt of skimmate per week, the 12-1 would pull that same amount out in about 1/2 to 2/3 the time. you'll always have something in the tank to pull out so the larger skimmer will give you better water quality and i don't think you'll ever get into the diminishing return.

I love your saying-

"Trying to lose weight by walking is like trying to bake a cake w/ a cigarette lighter"

I always feel that way when my wife goes walking but dont want to discourage her. lol. I think maybe that backfires though because the cake never bakes. FYI she is in preaty good shape though.

O back to the thread.

Sorry

if you'd have looked through the threads you'd have found many with detailed pics and everything your asking for here.........as well as in earlier pages of this thread which is why i directed you to it from your original thread.........guess your laziness goes deeper then just not cleaning a skimmer.

you have your occupation listed as a 'Jack of All Trades' and you can't measure a simple little flex tank adapter?? come on guy do a little work for yourself here.

Check out this simple mod...

I added a gate valve mod about a month ago and while installing it i had a thought.

When the water is pumped into the skimmer it shoots straight across the skimmer tube and hits the other side.

I added a 90 elbow to the pipe on the skimmer body so the water shoots straight down, right on top of the water exit pipe. The skimmer column is nearly filled with bubbles as apposed to about half full.

From what i have read skimming really comes down to the amount of air you're pumping into the water and contact time. This adjust LOOKS like it provides a lot more contact time.

My question is, have you ever tested such a mod or have any experience with it?

I tried that with my ASM G2, but used a 45. Like you said, bubbles went all the way to the bottom, but oddly enough, skimmer performance decreased. Dont know why. Turbulence??
