Greetings all.
My 11 year old son and I have entered the hobby this last Christmas as I purchased a used 46 gal tank with sump. Thanks to lots of stuff I've read here and much helpful advice from the guy I bought it from, we're up and running well. Tank didn't cycle at all over the month it's been running. All ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels still at zero. So we're slowly adding fish and corals. Great fun as a family! |

[QUOTE=philfry41;21110902]Greetings all.

Thanks to lots of stuff I've read here and much helpful advice from the guy I bought it from, we're up and running well. A 46gal is an awesome tank to start with, you have much more freedom to do what you want, especially having the luxury of a sump!

Just bought a 50 gallon existing tank setup off Craigslist last week. It has an old Fluval 403 canister filter and t5 lighting. Came with live rock, sand, and livestock. Inherited a 6" Hippo Tang which I'm trying to trade in to the LFS for credit. Figured the tang will be better off in a larger tank and that will allow me to get my own fish. Also inherited paired ocellaris, clarkii clownfish, lawnmower blenny, (3) striped damsels (which I hope to also trade in or rehome), and a blue damsel.

Back and new again. LOL
I can't figure this forum out. How to post what to what. What " reply to thread" to click on, LOL. Maybe we need a forum on how to use the forum, LOL. I tried to use this forum in 2006 and just gave up. Hope to stick with it this time. Lots of info. and great people here that I would love to learn from. I have a 24 gal. nano reef (old) and want to replace it with a new 28 gal. JBJ Advanced LED reef tank. Any info. on this system will be appreciated.

New,but moving up
I converted a 55 gal from fresh to salt last spring. Recently I purchased a used 150 gal tank and stand with sump system. I am currently rebuilding and refinishing the stand. Soon I will be taking down the 55g and have to figure out what to do with the live stock I have until I can put it in the new tank.

Hi all,
I am still a somewhat noob to the hobby and have been doing much research and reading on this forum so I figured I would post on here. I bought a friend's 125 gallon, softy dominated, reef tank 1.5 yrs ago & became baptized into the hobby through some trial and error right off the bat. I still have much learning, and am not satisfied with the efficiency of the setup and system design he was running and am planning a build on 240 gallon acrylic tank I recently purchased. |

Hi Reff Central,
This is Tolga YAMAN from Turkey. Just another starter to salty water and hopefully aiming to reach a good , healthy reef on the way. My tank is under build at the moment. size 90cm x 90cm x 50 cm PS: Just bought Tunze Master Doc 9420 Got one biopellet reactor for the start İllumination : not decided yet and all other euqipment to be presented to the experienced friends evaluations under another topic. After a looong reading term I realised that you can only learn swimming when youj jump in deep sea. |

Hey everyone! I am completely new to the forums as well as to the saltwater world =) My husband (lammy2012 is his username) and I have been kicking around the idea of starting a tank and finally made the decision to do so. I am super excited but a bit nervous as well because it seems a little complicated, then again I know nothing about this and am sure once we start learning and getting involved with it all, it will come easier. But that's why we are here! To learn, get info, and meet people who are into the same things as us! Just wanted to introduce myself and say hey!

my name is gene adkins. i live just outside of huntington wv. very new to the hobby and would like to set up a 30 gallon reef tank. any and all help will be appreciated. i'm 60 and disabled so i need to go somewhat inexpensive. do you need sand or broken corral for a bottom or will that cause nitrate problems? also what type of lighting will be necessary and what do i need for a currant in the tank. thanks gene adkins

New to the Forums
Well like the title says I'm new to this forum but have had a saltwater/reef tank for almost 10yrs. As my wife and I recently moved I got to breakdown and re-setup a tank that had been setup almost 9 years. I got to call a "redo" and rationalize upgrading most of the components of the tank. As such I'm really still figuring out my setup.
The goal of the new tank is mixed reef with zoas, softies, LPS, and some SPS. I picked up some acan frags and green monitpora cap which seem to be acclimating well but these are entirely new to me so questions will abound. Time to go back to staring at the tank willing things to grow. |

Brain coral question
Hi all! Been i saltwater hobby for about 3 years now and glad to be part of the group. I have one of the updated versions of the coral life 29 gallon bio cube. I have a question I could use some help with: I have an open brain coral which recently noticed some visible skeleton on just one side and I'm curious if this is a too much flow problem or something else. There are a few brown spot on that side and not sure if that is something either, another thought was I just had a galaxea coral "melt" (die) and if some of the decay got in contact with the brain. Appreciate the help.

Hello All
I have a 75 gallon DT and 35 gal sump refugium. I started my deep sand bed 4" depth a month ago all sand and live rock came from our reef here in Guam 6 minute drive from the beach. I notice that there are no nitrogen gas build up on the sand or worm activities like i normally see in youtube or other website . What is the reason why my deep sand bed is not going on this phase of cycle? |

Newbie questions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello this is my fist post. I have a 75gallon bowfront tank with about 75lbs of live rock, 2 1/2 to 3 inches of live sand. Lighting is a 48 inch coralife with 10000 watt light and also a 'purple light'...I run the white lights about 8 hours a day and the purple 2 hours a day. My water levels are pretty stable. Water changes I am doing 15 gallons/10 days as my nitrates were around 40 or so. I have also recently figured out that i needed to raise my skimmer in order to be able to tune it better. This has greatly increased my effectiveness of my skimmer and should help out with the nitrates. I am confused about what i refer to as my 'sump' or refuge. It is 40 gallons, 3 chambers. The water comes from the main tank into 1st compartment which holds the protein skimmer and heater, the 2nd compartment has some live rock and also I have some carbon in here, 3rd compartment has the pump returning water to the main tank. Is this considered a sump, or refuge? Currently in the tank I have: 1 Ocellaris clownfish 1 Bar gobi 1 blue/green chromis 2 firefish (these are new additions, so far seem to be doing well) 1 cleaner shrimp - I think its coral banded shrimp... I also have what I believe is a bubble tip anenome, its pinkish in color and recently it split into two, so now I have two of these. They rarely move and are kind of positioned now behind a rock near the bottom so difficult to see. The clownfish hangs with the original anenome where its at, so frequently he is out of sight... I have a couple of rocks with mushroom corals on them. Any thoughts on what i have going are appreciated. Also am looking for suggestions on another nice fish to feature in the tank. Possible a tang, something really nice looking that will draw some attention. I have had two yellow eyed tangs (not at the same time) when I first got my tank going about a year ago. Both died very quickly. However that has been at least 6 months since I last tried that and I think that my tank is doing a lot better now... Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice... |

Been reading up on saltwater tanks for a couple of months. I'm definitely interested; BUT, i just am not sure how to begin. i keep reading and reading and finding guides and instructions all over... i guess it just seems overwhelming... and i don't want to get an aquarium, only to realize that for some reason, it won't work out for me. anyways....... just saying hi~!! |
