just a note to say hello and introduce myself
Hey everyone...
I have been into salt water for about a year... Kinda happened by accident... I had a 75 gallon fresh water tank for the last 10 years or so... and one day the tank started leaking all over my living room... I rescued most of the fish and gave them away and swore off fish tanks... I posted something about it on Facebook and the next thing I know.. a friend of a Friend ended up giving me a 175 Oceanic bowfront with all the trimmings... what is a guy supposed to do... so I have been learning all kinds of things for the last year... finally got some growth going on and my corals are starting to take off... also I joined a local Reef group on Facebook and found out that a lot of my existing friends were into reef tanks as well... I also just got my hands on a 45 gallon reef ready tank that I am going to add to my martial arts school... anyhow, looking forward to making more friends.. Kevin |

Hello, my name is Noah. I live in Alexandria, VA. I am active duty Air Force and I have been in the freshwater hobby for a couple years now, but started to get bored with it. I've been keeping African Cichlids in a 125 gallon tank. I decided to set up a 75 gallon tank for salt water fish and corals. I have a sump for it, but I'm redoing it because it wasnt big enough for the 75 gallon. I'm now using a 36 gallon bowfront as my sump. I have a couple clowns and a couple green chromis. I have quite a few zoanthids in the tank as well. Everything seems to be going okay. I havent killed off anything yet.
I just wanted to introduce myself and say I look forward to making some new friends on here and hopefully learning a few things along the way. |

Hello!
New to this hobby (have had freshwater fish for over 20 years) now venturing into this. I'm just doing a LOT of research and learning now before actually setting up everything. Deciding on what fish/corals, timeline, etc. I'm in no hurry and want to make sure I have exactly what I want first. The tank I'm most likely going to purchase is a Red Sea Max 250. Seems like a good place to start. Thanks for sharing all your experience. I'm really enjoying learning. ~Cyndy |

Greetings,
My Name is Chris. I am new to this site, and new to marine tanks. I am looking forward to learning from everyone here as I grow in the hobby. I do have a question though, not sure where I should post it. I purchased the Red Sea Max 250 yesterday. After getting everything put together, I pre-mixed my salt water (Red Sea Coral Pro) with AquaSafe Plus for the water. I filled the tank last night with only the sand base (live sand) and the water. The water was cloudy during that time, left the pumps on for the night expecting the water to clear up over the night, however it was still milky this morning. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Is this normal or am I missing something. I could really use some help here. Thanks, and again, I am looking forward to learning from everyone. Chris |

If saltwater behind the ears counts as new, then I'm new.

Hello everyone. This forum is great. I have been reading the DIY for the last 6 months as I plan to design and build my own reef controller. I know its been done many times but I love doing this stuff and had fresh water tanks for many years and want to make the leap. Thanks for all your help and I hope I can return the favor one day to the next group.

Aha! found the introduction thread!
Hi, my name is Andrea, I'm Italian and I live in London (UK). I have been keeping FW fish for a couple of years now and I've decided to step into the big blue. I currently have a 4' tank with discus, rummynose tetras and corys, a 30 litre shrimp tank bursting at the seams with red crystal shrimps, and a small 2' tank with a few otos and rasboras that will become a refugium for the discus soon. I also have a 90 litre tank (plus 30 litre DIY sump) that used to be a nano reef. I started setting it up beginning of December and it was coming along very nicely. I was really proud of it, but a house move with VERY cold weather and it crashed. It now has live rock and sand, a skunk shrimp, two emerald crabs and a few snails, plus an anemone that is still fighting to stay alive, nothing else. It is now just keeping these alive for my new tank. The description of my plans for the new tank are here: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2282562 You will find a copy of this introduction there, sorry, I just couldn't find the introduction thread. |

it means to update the thread, especially if it's been a while since someone's posted.

Harveymeister,
It's pretty normal for the water to be cloudy for a while depending on your filtration and how you introduce the substrate. I'm sure it will clear up shortly. J ust let your filter do it's job |

Hey everyone. I'm Bryce. Just joined. On a mission to learn all I can before I start up a reef system for the first time. I have a 55gal freshwater community system I established a little over a year ago. Fell in love with the hobby, learned you can go overboard easy. I've been reading a lot online, watching a lot of YouTube videos, emailing various reef tank supply stores, and have found there's a handful of right answers to the same questions (a handful of wrong ones too). Basically, I've learned that I can talk with a lot of people with much more experience than me, get their opinions and what worked for them, and then make my own educated decision.
That being said, I welcome AND appreciate any and all knowledge you all may have and are willing to offer to the questions I have as they arise. Thank you all, in advance

hello every one im Crystal, Im new to the salt water hobby. I have a 55gal tank, My friend recently gave me one of his anemone and got it home placed it in my tank and one of my power heads sucked it up right through the front...How this happend i have no clue. the whole top of the anemone was facing the power head and now the tentacles are very short. Is it dead now, is there any hope of saving it? What do I do. I did a five gallon WC because thats what I had on hand, upped my protein skimmer and took the little guy out of the tank. The only think left in my tank are some Damsels that were my pilot fish. Am I ok?

Hi Everyone,
just got back in to marine keeping about a year ago after a 15 year break can't belive how things have changed. things are so much easier now with forums on the web for help and the advances in technology and understanding in filter systems. any way now have a old D&D 24g modified with a external power filter as an external pump (no media), lighting replaced with a TMC 1000 reef white LED tile and a diy made phosphate filter. will be upgrading to a Aqua One 300 tank shortly. |

New to Reef Central
Greetings! I'm a relatively new reefer, but I feel I've gone through a lot in the 1.5 years since starting in this hobby. My first tank was a BioCube which was a disaster. I eventually bought another BioCube and did some extensive mods to it by taking out the back wall, drilling the back glass and installing bulkheads and a drain and return from a custom sump I made to fit the cube's stand.
My second tank was a FOWLER 75 gal I tried running with two Fluval canister filters. That didn't work and I wanted corals so I drilled that tank as well and installed a sump and finally got some good lights. So that's where I am, just starting a large (for me) reef tank. Having some issues with cycling and my skimmer but I hope to work through all that. Hope to get some good advice here and maybe contribute my limited knowledge to someone else someday. |
