That does look like a trigger. Gustavo IMO I would look to getting that trigger a new home. I know its small now and all, but it sure would appreciate a larger glass box, 70gal but prob a 90gal. Im not gonna jump down your throat about it, but many people on here will really razz ya about it. Oh and Octoberfest- Im not buying it, its b/c of the beer. I guess if it really isn't Im just gonna pretend it is, bc i wait for fall to come around because the seasonal beer is like Christmas in October to me! |

Trigger already gone, had to satisfy the other halfs demands so I could prove it was bad to put it in. It went to a good home.

Am I noticing a theme? HAHA LOL theres a thread on here about a 20 yearold reef or something like that. A guy in the NY area is the one who has it, and he has a few antique beer cans IN his tank! hahaha

ya good guy, and very knowledable (sp).. and his reef is approaching its 40th birthday if not already.. soon. some great ideas from him and always a great source of information. +1 to him..
On another note.. I will post pictures of my BC29 this weekend, besides the corals and rock, the only other live inhabitants are a few snails and a few hermits.. Rocky my decorator crab (well my girlfriends crab).. calls that BC is home.. Is there anyone knowledgible about decorator crabs in reference to feeding and care? or a place online to find some info? I have had him for about three months now and he was originally in my 125gallon tank and he took.. clove pollyps and the little purple star pollyps to decorate himself with.. I feed him once a week with some mysis shrimp.. but he is very slow and i never really notice much activity from him except at night.. I wake up at 5am to goto work and the lights in the BC are off except the moonlights, and he sits perched on the highest rock just chillin.. Anyone know anything about this awe-inspiring creature of the deapths? -Chris |

Anyone who moded the skimmer on a 14g:
What did you guys use? I am having trouble finding a good fit. I am sick of replacing the wood air bubblers for this thing!

What is the best skimmer for a 29g biocube? How much is it?

So, yay! My skimmer has been working well this week! The water already looks a lot better.
Couple questions: I have a frogspawn, and someone in our local club is giving me a hammer. My understanding is they are similar, I can put them close to each other, etc. But looking up hammers I'm now paranoid about the sweeper tentacles. Do you guys think I'll be okay with it? Also, with where the Nem has placed himself. Has anyone had any success putting any type of coral near an anemone? Frags I'm getting at a meeting tonight: four types of zoas, a trumpet, and the hammer. |

frogspawn and hammers are both members of the euphyllia genus and can touch each other with no problems. a frogspawn and hammer are very similar and will both put out sweepers, but towards each other.
i have problems putting corals near my BTA because everytime i either put a coral next to it, or the anemone walks next to a coral, my clown fish will remove the coral from the rock using its mouth and drop it somewhere else in the tank. its the wierdest thing and ive never heard of anything like it before from anybody else. normally the fish likes to move my colonies of zoanthids.

*laughs* That's funny. Clowns definitely have fun little personalities.
They've yet to try to move any of my few other corals though. My biggest problem tends to be my goby covering them with sand. *sigh* |

I keep no long sweeper tentacled LPS in my tank with my anemone. The BTA is far too big no matter where I put the LPS their tentacles are very close to each other and most long sweeper tentacled LPS have far more potent stings than BTA's.

I just wanted to say how impressive so many of these BioCubes are guys and gals. I'm just getting my 14 started, and this thread is an inspiration.

I just got a 29 Biocube last weekend. I have the tank filling with water now. I ordered the Sapphire skimmer and plan on using a Korilla 1 for added flow. I have a 100W titanium heater that I will use. I have my old Litremeter III that I will be using for ATO. I am planning a zoos, Ricordea and LPS. A few small fish as well.
Down the road I will probably get the 4x36W light upgrade form nanotuners. I do have a few questions though. With the stock lighting does the tank get hot? I dont want to get a chiller if I do not have to. Any thing else I should worry about or look to mod now before I get rock in there?

Guys, I see some people saying the MJ1200 produces too much heat on the 29. I keep my house very cold. Would that still be an issue? Room temperature water stays at 72 or below. Room temp is around 66-68.

I'm not sure. I live in central FL and I had decently high temps before.... after putting in the MJ1200, my first thoughts were that it doesn't increase flow nearly as much as I expected. Not that it added too much heat to my tank. I can't get my tank below 82 now. But it doesn't get higher than 83 with the lights/fans on either...
If you want more flow and already have added a K1 or similar, I recommend looking into something more powerful than the MJ1200. Maybe mod the MJ1200 and if it's too powerful, use loc line to split the output into two? |

modding the MJ, or any of the MJ series, with any of the propeller mods.. would def be way to strong for any of the BC series. I promise you the modded MJ's are insane, and should only be used in tanks that are long, and bigger than 40 gallons (thinking of a 40 breeder) Im my opinion, keep the stock pump for the return line, and add an additional k1 or 2x k1's for additional flow.
A Modded MJ1200, in my guestimated opinion puts out around 1800 - 2000 gph. |

Yes, the modded 1200's are very high. At least 1200gph. I was more or less replacing the stock pump because people are saying the MJ is more reliable. If that's not the case, then I'd rather not bother.
I put a Hydor Flo on the outlet, and I'll probably be using a Tunze 6025 or Koralia 1 or 2. I'm only intending to keep Zoas, LPS, and some Montipora's. No "real" SPS.

i tried a mj1200 in my tank, then a mj600 and they were both noisy. Not sure what i was doing wrong or if both of my pumps are just noisy. so for now i have stock pump which works fine and a k nano
